Thanks Stardrops :T will keep that in mind.
How spooky that I found this thread tonight ..... was joking with my auntie today about her will, saying that I hope she leaves her sewing box to me .... it's years old, large and stands on legs .... she wouldn't let me leave until I took it with me.
So another sewing project, to recover the lid ...... I have got some curtain material left over ..... hope there is enough ..... it could match my curtains then :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -

My mam has just had her sewing machine serviced, she rang someone out of the local paper. Maybe you could find someone from your local paper or yellow pages. Sorry not much help:oA creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
It looks like a few of us need a sewing machine expert to hold our hand
but not while we're sewing obviously - tee hee

What book is it that your sister taught herself with? xx
It was the Readers Digest Complete Guide to Sewing. I mentioned to my MIL to look out for it for me - she's the sort of person you tell her you need something and a week later she's found it for 50p in a charity shopBut this time she went one better, she already had it on her shelf and gave it to me. I know Amazon sell it though. You wouldn't believe the things my sister makes now, quilts, bags, rucksacks, laundry bags... she's amazing. I hope I can get half as good.

I can highly recommend the Readers Digest books I've got the sewing one link
and the needlework one link They are my first point of reference when crafting."A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." Mark Twain0 -
Well here is my first attempt at making a baby blanket which turned into a gift set (got a bit cocky after I managed to make the blanket:D) It's for our new grandbaby which is due in Feb:j I used a soft pale green flannelette on one side and a gorgeous soft cream fleece on the other. I then decided to make a soft taggy to use up the bits of fleece I had left and all the bits of ribbon I have. After completing those I thought "there's no stopping me now" and decided to make a little sort of bunny thing:p "cough" please note the use of zig zag stitch on the front of the bunny thing:D first time I've ever used the zig zag:jAnyway I know it's quite simple(lots of straight lines;)) but I was well chuffed!

Fabulous!!
I'm a novice, got sewing briefly at school quite a few years ago, but got a sewing machine for Christmas, and can't wait to get started!
I'm hoping to recycle fabric - kids and my old clothes for example, and maybe charity shop finds. All depending on how well I get on with the machine of course, but hopefully this thread will both support and inspire0 -
Please can I join too??? I haven't been realyy active in MSE for the past year or so..So I thought that this year I'll try to be as active as I was before and try to share and interact with loads of people and learn a lot of things. I have also been really not so prepared this christmas to the point that I have spend a lot buying gifts rather than making them...(which is not good for the bank balance..) My sewing machine have only been used once this year and I think it's about time that it gets a little bit more active and in my part bemore creative. I got my bestfriend a fleecy blanket which cost me £15 and I think I can make one for half the price..Sealed Pot Challenge 2012 #1502:)
Debt free by 2014, hopefully earlier...:T0
