What about making some sort of embellishment, maybe out of the patterned fabric and attaching it to the front middle so that it comes up higher there? IYSWIM

danables if you move the straps wider apart at the back would that lift it slighly without going under the arms ? otherwise could you redo the band around the front but shape it slightly so it slightly bows up at the front . Personally from the picture though it looks ok

Thnaks Georgiabay, no, its hand embriodery- just copied the pattern onto tissue paper and pinned it to the front on the fabric then used water spray to remove it after id stiched over it. I used acrylic paints for the graffitti- and as an added bonus I didnt realise that they glow in the dark!

I have just got this pencil off ebay, I wanted to do my own designs but wasnt sure how to get them on the fabric and I didn't want to wet it then I found this and its great :D

I have just put a search in for Craft Transfer Pencil and there are loads and cheaper
I thought it might help everyone who likes doing embroidery :D

Oo yes Georgiabay, youve got me thinking... I could put another strap above the band that attaches to the shoulder straps leaving a gap in between the bands so it looks like a double band iyswim?..will have a play and tack one on, much easier then redoing things. I think moving the straps wider apart on the back would be the same as shortening the straps shaz, and it would still cut under the arms and id have to pull the dress apart if i redid the band but doing a slightly curved band next time might be worth a thought for the next dress so thanks for the idea x

:) umm how about simply another row of the pink above the one that is there? you could embroider something nice on it if youre worried it would be too much of a block of colour.

lovely bags and embroidery too. i'm a bit old school and only ever use a window to trace the design with pencil! :o

When using a bought pattern, what do most of you do? I was wandering whether to just cut out my size or to copy it onto something else then cut out.

    Thanks

With my original suggestion I was thinking of just a flower or something, but now you've said this I've had another thought. You could add another band of the pink and put horizontal pin tucks in it pressed upwards then attach it behind the first band by topstitshing the same width as the pin tucks so that the original top edge looks like another pin tuck.

The actual pin tucks are easy because they're just straight lines. Say for instance you wanted to do 1/4" pin tucks with 1/4" showing between the fold of one and the sewing line of the next. Mark your fabric up into 1/2" strips and bring two lines next to each other together and sew along the line. Press the fold. Leave the next 1/2" for the tuck to lie flat on, then bring the next two lines together and sew. Do as many as you want, then press them upwards. Instead of having to hem the top you could allow enough fabric to fold over and come back down the inside the same length and then sew it all behind the original top edge. Leave enough material before the first tuck for joining to the dress. I probably haven't explained that very well.
The hardest part will be working out how many tucks you can fit, what size and how much fabric it will use.
