Thanks all for the advice re the cutters:D, think I will get a 45mm one for now if the blades are easier to get.
Hart ~ Just had a look at your bath mat, its fab!:T Can I ask is the towel double thickness under the cotton? I could do with one thats bath sheet sized as my tiles are so cold.0 -
Has anyone any experience in making quilts? I'm trying to find the wadding or whatever you want to call it for making one padded rather than just two sheets of cotton. I've never made a quilt before, but I'm a bit bored of making dressesm and the veil material STILL hasn't arrived.
The wadding that you need for quilts is actually called batting. You can get cotton, polyester or bamboo. Not cheap, but you need the proper stuff if you want to either hand or machine quilt.
I was sold some wadding when I wanted to make a padded mat for my machine and it was very hard to work with.Jack of all trades ... Master of none

Tip using rotary cutters - make sure you don't accidentally run over a pin with your cutter as I did, I now have a tiny blunt patch on my blade so when I cut fabric every so often I miss a thread so I have to go back to cut it! Annoying! I could replace the blade but thats not very MSE!!0

Thank you Fruit-loop, I used a bath towel folded in half but you coulld sew two towels together to make a larger one and cut the cotton fabric to fitit just makes it a bit thicker and warmer.
My bathroom has a tiled floor so I need something down on it or we end up sliding into the door when we step out of the shower (not got a bath) :rotfl:Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

I think my next one will be 2 towels rather than folding one. It is a lot neater turning them inside out too (bit like doing a lined bag)
