Dinah ~ :wave:Hello  and welcome to this thread! Please post pics of your stuff if you can as we love to have a nosey!

I posted this on my blog but should also put it here, I found a use for a couple of those Yo-Yos I made from my scraps bag earlier this week, I made an ipod cover from a tutorial on Sew Christine's Blog (she is super talented - have a look at my blog and link through to hers, it's brill!), its the same tutorial I used for my blue phone cover that I posted a while back:

I love that cover, its really pretty.

My dress took longer than expected. Still need to put the zip in and hem it, which will be done tomorrow as I had a migrane today and was in no mood! I'll definately post up some photos once I finish it though, I'm quite pleased with it, mainly because I love the fabric, its worked really well. Going to attempt a jersey maxi dress next, I've never sewn with jersey before so I'm a little nervous.

kandi - i love the ipod cover, and it may the best use of yo-yos i've ever seen!

Dinah - welcome to the thread. do you have a dfw diary? you seem familar iykwim!

I do - I'm on I think its my 5th one now which is here. I'm actually debt free - although with our wedding around the corner, our house purchase completing next month, and my sick pay about to run out (currently waiting on a knee op) I might be about to plunge back into the DFW world! Its just a very fast moving thread where my girlies can chatter really!

Wow - some lovely things and some new faces - welcome everyone :D

I have been playing with my machine and made this

    P1050293.jpg

Doll is made from a sock like the monkeys and I made her dress from a tea towel.

Thinking of trying a bag, but only ever use 2 handbags, so not sure if I'd use it ;)

Also made a Crayon Roll for grandson

I love the crayon roll, thats really beautiful. And tidy. I like tidy!

Hi Dinah, sewing with jersey is a bit of a challenge :rotfl: I decided to make a jacket/cover-up for a night out using jersey (I had not sewn with it before).

I found cutting around the pattern the worst bit as it moves :o and I tacked all the seams before sewing on my machine. I had some great help from Onewom, she advised me to use zigzag stiches on the machine :D.

Its on P100 if you want to have a look :D

Oh, and yes some days we do chatter a lot but sometimes we are busy sewing :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

Whats P100? Aye I know to use a zig zag but its still a little intimidating!

Finished my hem and zip this morning. I chose this pattern because I found the blue material and loved it, but thought it would be a bit much en masse, so I thought I could make some nice workwear with a small ammount of it.

    Enjoy the piccies!

I'm really, really pleased with the dress, there are a few small niggles where some hems frayed a little bit but overall I'd be more than happy to wear it out. I altered the pattern a bit, made the skirt longer and put a slit up the back, as I don't like wearing things above knee height, and suprisingly these alterations worked quite well.

    Hello everyone

There really is some stunning work on this thread. I am VERY afraid of my sewing machine, but have been on the flylady thread for a while. The result is I have a crummy uncovered Ektorp sofa bed that I want to cover. Ikea no longer do them (Its the larger 2 seater version) so I thought Id best have a go.

Im okay with the basics-my big problem is that I cant figure out how to draw a pattern for it-I get the basic concept, but Im very confused about seam allowances:o

Wondered if someone could offer me some help please? And I may just stick around regardless and see if I can get over that fear:)
  • Hi everyone

I really like looking at the things everyone makes. I am busy sewing net curtains - 2 down but 6 to go. I interrupted the curtains to make a tote bag from a furnishing remnant. It needs some buttons or something to decorate as it is a rather dull green and it is a present for a friend who loves bright things!

Dinah93 - P100 is page 100. I would add to what I posted that if you are going to make a jersey dress you will need to tape the shoulder seams (and waist seam if there is one) for a professional result.

Polkadot - I don't know much about upholstery so I expect there is someone who can give better advice but I would add a generous seam allowance because you will be using a thick fabric and to allow room for alteration if there is a problem with the original pattern.

Dinah ~ Really inpressed with that outfit, looks fab, the colours go so well together and the fit looks great! I like the gathered pleated bust area, brill!!
Polka ~ Don't be afraid, just get a book from the library for beginners and get cracking, start small and work your way up.

Dizzytina, thats great news about your OH. I was made redundant in November and still havent found anything yet. Its starting to really get me down now but Im trying to stay positive and therefore sewing as much as possible in between job hunting to keep my mind off it.

Thanks for info Fruitloop. My bag is now finished (thank god!!) Its on my blog if anyone wants to have a look. The pictures make the fabric look scary but its actually really nice!! Hart, thanks again for that link. I didnt make it the same as her as didnt have all the right fabrics but the principal was the same. Really helped me, cheers. x

Pootleflump try and keep your chin up and i really hope something comes your way soon. My OH was starting to get really down but i just kept letting him know that its not his fault and that he was doing all he could. It must be really tough for you but try not to take it personally. I'll keep my fingers crossed that something turns up soon :)

Dinah - love the dress. Wish I had your figure to go in it as well ;)

The idea for the doll came from here

    http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Sock-Doll

I adapted the clothes from a rag doll pattern in the Sew Hip book - very basic though.:D

I have been practising with my machine again and made a couple of bags - not great as I made a few silly mistakes, but all good practice ;)
