The Sewing Room

My daughter is full of a cold and feeling very sorry for herself so I made her a little purse to keep her inhaler in. It's hand sewn as it was the 1st one I've made and took a bit of working out, but it totally unzips-no practical use at all, but quite funky.
Here it is hanging on my fridge.0 -

The chap stick case with a keyring loop is a great idea. We buy load of them as they are forever getting lost. I bet they would sell really well on your stall.PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!0 -
Hello Sewing Room, I've not been here before but I'm a bit of a closet crafter and really need to VENT!!! Hope that's okay.
I'm DIY-ing most of my wedding (invitations and all stationery, jam for favours, scones for arrival nibbles, all venue decor, all jewellery except wedding rings, gifts for bridesmaids and ushers, bridesmaids' bags, my shoes, the cravats and pocket squares, my veil, and the bridesmaids' dresses. The dresses are where I'm having a problem.
I had bought all the fabric, trimmings etc and the lace for the overlay was on order - a 25m roll. This was already my second choice of lace (although actually I ended up preferring it - fickle!!) as they had run out of stock of the first one. I was expecting it to arrive on the Monday. On the Tuesday morning I received a phone call from the warehouse to say it was out of stock. They did not have it on order. There is no alternative either in stock or expected. They did not know if they would be ordering any more, but even if they were, it would not be for 6 months. And not a single apology, even though I was, by this point, in tears. Cue a day spent online/on the phone to various other suppliers and fabric stores, whereby I eventually managed to source a similar lace at a similar price, although I now have to choose between buying a cut length of 20m at double the price I had originally budgetted, or a 60m roll at the same metre price but 3 times as much lace than I need!!! And still no apology from FabricLand. Gutted. Luckily I can work overtime in my job, so a few extra shifts should pay for the difference either way. (It'll be more romantic if I hardly see the groom for the next 7 months before the wedding, right?!)
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant on, sorry for the epic whinge. Just so disappointing to be let down. Happy crafting everyone!!0 -
Oh what a shame about the lace katgirlie. I would never trust Fabricland with a big order after reading this. I reckon if you can afford it you would be better off buying the extra lace on the roll and then seeing if you can sell it on Ebay and get some money back. Good luck and let us know how you are getting on xx0

I think that's what I do - if I can sell it for £2/m I'll break even on the difference, and I should be able to sell it for more than that. I'm so disappointed with FL - normally they're lovely and so helpful, but her attitude that day really stunk. It was like I was inconveniencing her for having placed the order in the first place, and being unreasonable for being upset and trying to solve the problem!! I probably will use them again because they're so cheap and local to me, but I will never trust them with anything important. If it's not on the shelf I'll assume I'll never see it.
Thank you for your comment though, nice to know there are sympathetic people out there!! x0 -
