This weekend I received an invite to a fancy dress party. I spent most of yesterday making this dress and a net underskirt.
Can you guess who I am going as?
Just need to make a bow and some ears...:pSlimming world new starter 2/1/17:D:DWeight loss so far 5 stone 8 lbs

so busy these days that trying to keep up with all the threads etc is too time consuming! I am getting more work slowly, and haven't been doing any more table tops etc so still have a lot of bags in stock. My organisational skills are rather lacking and planning ahead seems to have gone out of the window! The sewing machines both had hiccups this week and had to goto the service engineer. But on my way to work on Friday the car broke down and is poorly in the garage. Meaning a loss of £50 days work every day it is not working. (Of the three days a week I work for vintage clothes company). So tomorrow when I will not be able to go to work its time to have a sort out of my sewing corner (s) and try to get a head start on my accumulated fabric stash(horde!) and see if I can create our Christmas with what I have lurking. Money is going to be tight with the lack of car, it's cost to repair- if it can be, and the realisation that it needs replacement as I need a reliable vehicle. I do over 400 miles a week and buses are really not an option.
I still bought more fabric on EBay the other day! It's probably time I was selling some that I have instead! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi Mooloo, wondered how you were getting on, what a pain with the car and the machines too. I have been making a bag and my brother machine was having serious problems tackling the thickness of sewing over the handles etc on this certain bag as it seemed thicker than my normal bags so I got my singer out of the box, first time I have used it since it went back for repair last year and I bought the brother instead. It managed to sew through the thicknesses alright so I decided to carry on using it to make the rest of the bag but noticed after a while that it had started messing up underneath again like it did before. I have had this problem with it since I bought it, it doesnt actually loop but it just looks messy, the stitches are a sort of loop, more a knot every now and then and not good enough for top stitching even if its on the back. I have put it back away in the box and will carry on with the brother and try to make bags that are not so thick. Stupid really as the singer was twice as expenisive as the brother and has some lovely fancy stitches on it that I like to use but can only use it if the back of the fabric will be covered up because of the mess it makes.
My son wants me to make a quilt for my youngest grandson for Christmas so if you are sorting your stash and find any small bits suitable for a little boy message me and I will see if I can buy them from you. I am thinking of using green, blue and yellow colours. I already have some bits but not many kiddy themed bits.
Hope you get the car fixed xx0 -

I have so many fabrics! I will take a good look and message you with my findings! I am sure I will have something that you will be able to incorporate. How old is your grandson? Baby or toddler? Have some samples of tractors somewhere. Also sure I have some cartoony fabrics. But also baby blue gingham, yellow as well. (Somewhere!)When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi Rufusdog, Have you tried using different bobbins with your singer? Apparently my metal ones I have been using were part of my problem. Also the standard of the threads. Both machines didn't like the thread I was using! Changed the threads and started to sew beautifully!

As I had completed my fancy dress costume. I decided to make a matching bag

The pattern was so easy I made some more bags. I will fill them with smellies, chocolates and other homemade goodies for Christmas.
2.
Here is the link. I skipped the patchwork part of the pattern, just used larger pieces of fabric for the body of the bag.
