Gorgeous pictures Battleaxe and a lovely doorstop Winnie. Pennib, your doll is beautiful, I missed it when you posted, I don't always get the notifications and dont realise I am missing something.

I was getting fed up not being able to sew with my OH being on nights so managed to get up there the other evening after he had gone out and made a bag

  • Pennib, no these are not cross stitch, they are done using my embroidery machine.

I can't do cross stitch because of dyslexia, my brain is scrambled enough without trying to work out cross stitch.

Thank you for your kind remarks.

Rufus Dog, your bag is fabulous..

Off to Social Sewing today, s still working on my new quilt...paper piecing arghhhh....another challenge out of my comfort zone.

    Penni, that is sooo cute!!
Winnie, cool doorstop! I think I might make one of those.. I like the idea of it not being bog standard shop bought and hopefully not much can go wrong!!:-))
    Rufusdog, nice bag!

I haven't done anything, because we were busy over the weekend. It looks like... dare I say it... we decided we are going to move! We want extra bedroom. And perhaps bigger garden.

BUT to do that we first have to sell ours. and before we do that, we need to decorate etc etc... One of the must do things is to replace a curtain for front room bay window.. current curtains are 2x100 inch wide panels!! I don't think I can buy that wide curtains of the peg???
So I might have to make them myself... Any tips, advice, blogs on how to do it, videos please??
    They must be pencil pleat.

Hi, I am hoping someone can advise me.
I want to make a double bed quilt using 20x20cm squares, I have had conflicting advice on how many squares I will need. I would like the quilt to hang over the end & edges of the bed like a double duvet cover does.
I am only using the patchwork squares on the front of the quilt & one pattern of fabric on the back.

    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks

20cm squares are 8 inches, you would have 1/4 inch seams all round so finished square would be 7.5 inches. What I do for mine then is to measure the bed laying the measure from where you want it to come from lengthways, so either from head board or pillows depending on whether you want it to cover the pillows or not, then measure down over the bed and let the tape hang off the end of the bed where you want it to finish. Write down this measurement. The measure across the bed starting the same amount down one side, across the whole bed and down the other side. Write down this measurement. Then work out how many 7.5 inch squares it would take to make one strip, (I measure in inches as its easier for me), say your measurement is 75 inches then you would need ten squares to make one strip down the bed. Now work out how many strips across the bed, so if the bed is say 68 inches then you would need 9 to fit across (it would come up half inch smaller but no need to worry about that). If the measurements mean you would need half a square then it is up to you whether to actually do a half square across or make the quilt that little bit bigger to fit in the extra whole squares or a bit smaller to take out the extra squares.

    Hope this makes sense xx

Here are some felt pouches I have been making of an evening, they hold a small note pad.SAM_2093.jpg
  • The felt pouches are pretty Rufus. I have been teaching a lady dressmaking again today. Didn't get many blocks made for my new quilt.

I am a very cross little crafter!
I ordered several metres of fabric from www.cheapfabrics.co.uk on 16th Aug. Their website says that standard delivery is in 3-5 days. Money was debited from my account on 19th Aug. I though it would be with me around the bank holiday weekend.

Several emails later, they tell me there has been a problem... so no fabric, just a refund. .. Now it's too late to source similar material (at a good price) and assemble a dress in time for my friends party.

I'm going to have to head into the City on Saturday and see what Fenwicks/ John lewis have on offer
