Argh, Rufusdog! Will you be able to get a new sewing machine? Or the old one fixed?
    Good luck anyway.
Hand stitching still!!! The black and white quilt will take me an age me thinks!!!
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Sorry to hear about your machine rufusdog.
Good that OH has ordered a new one for you though. Is it going to be a santa pressie?

Thanks for the reply re the Elves. I have spent all afternoon cutting out all the bits. It took a while as I want to make 5!
Any tips for the sewing up? Not sure whether to do one start to finish or start a production line. In my experience you always learn from the first one and adapt your technique by making mistakes!

I did a production line cuddles. I didnt do it exactly the same as the tut, I sewed up the outsides of the legs and arms (after adding boots and mitts) and then made the face and sewed the two heads onto the bodys, then I sewed the two body parts together just leaving enough room for the arms and legs to poke in. I found it too hard to sew them on by machine with them inside like she did so I just turned the body through, stuffed the arms and legs then poked them in the holes I had left and hand sewed them. I hand sewed the ears in too (I had machined up the side of the head and left a hole in the top to turn through and stuff then just made a small gap in the seam with a seam ripper and poked the ears in and stitched them in)

As for the machine, OH is paying half of it and I have to pay the other half. Didnt feel too well today, might have been the flu jab I had yesterday, so havent got any sewing done so not missed the machine today. Its been dispatched so might come tomorrow fingers crossed.

    Thanks rufusdog.

I have sat tonight and sewn the hats (and sewn on the trim) sewn hair on and done the faces (not very well :o)

Tomorrow will be sewing together I think. Did you change thread colour or use the same throughout?

Have to say hate turning tubes, they are so frustrating. You need teeny tiney fingers:o

This is the start of a quilt I'm working on. A 'quirky' house applique lap/back of sofa quilt.

Your blocks are cute :T I've just decided my next project is going to be an autumn/winter themed quilt for the sofa. It's going to be longer and narrower than a duvet so it doesn't drag on the floor but is long enough do DH and I don't fight over who has most!

I'm just binding my first ever quilt *eeeep*, it's single bed size for DH's dressing room. I'm pretty happy with it, I pieced and quilted it by hand and that was all very exciting and simple compared to hand stitching the binding which is sooooo boring!

Does anyone else hand quilt or does everyone use a machine? (Also, hello :) )

Hello lovely sewers (or should that be sewists?)
I've not been on here for ages but I need some inspiration and I figured you were the people to ask. I bought some lovely fabric on a whim and I think I'd like to make myself a bag with it, but having scoured all my books, pinterest etc I'm struggling to decide what style or pattern to go for. I generally prefer cross body or shoulder bags, as I'm usually pushing a buggy so need hands free. I don't need a particularly big bag as I have the aforementioned buggy and a nappy bag to carry most things, but I like to have a handbag separate for mt purse, phone, keys, etc etc.

    This is the fabric

The post its are to give an idea of scale.

I think I'd prefer to also have a plain fabric to balance it out, so I took a pic with somechambray and some plain black fabric I have, although I will buy something different if it will work better.

So, what do you think? Any ideas/ patterns/ tutorials that you think will work?
    Thanks in advance

Well I spent almost all day on the elves - very sore fingers.

All the arms and legs are made and turned, but need stuffing.
I have finished one to make sure it worked OK, and as I suspected, have learnt what not to do :p

    This is the finished one

Thanks rufusdog - managed to sew all the arms and legs on as per the tut, but did the ears afterwards.
Couldn't get the right coloured felt, so made fabric ones, but they're sooo fiddly!
