I have been sewing for over 40 years and I couldn't make much sense out of the pocket bit either!

might be one on here? http://pursepatterns.com/free_bag_patterns.html

Just a quick question about the Elf pattern. Did you add seam allowance or is it included?

Cuddles. I didnt add any seam allowance to mine xx
  • Any ideas what type/weight of interlining I need to reline a duffle coat? Hoping to buy online if anyone knows.

I got the original coat lining unpicked, I've cut down the seams, laid out onto (pre-washed) new lining and just need some interlining (can't reuse because original is stuck to original lining and holey!). - I fear if I put this off I'll have forgotten how to sew it all back up again!

If I used any I would use lightweight, but would be tempted not to bother, duffle coats are already quite thick.

    Hi everyone

My sewing machine packed up at the weekend. Sounded like something broke underneath as it made a loud bang. Was clanking a bit before hand, I thought it was the bobbin a bit loose so was just finishing a seam to take it out and have a look when it went completely. OH has ordered me a new one off his catalogue as cant afford to get this one fixed at the moment.

I did manage to get a couple more bags finished before the disaster, they are presents for people. Also got some dolls bodies sewn up ( well the bits of them), they are small ones and I am going to try to dress them as Dickens characters for my stall at the Dickens Christmas fair.

have made my first rag quilt. the quilting bit went ok but went very wrong on the bias binding round the edges. Despite looking at you tube videos on how to do the corners I just couldnt do it! its only for my son and I'm sure he wont notice!! bizarre thing though is that the quilt smells really wierd. I bought some of the fabric from a market stall and thought at the time it smelt a bit wierd in the bag. I have washed it twice and it still smells! hopefully it will go soon!!

When I make my quilts I don't use bias binding, I just use strips of fabric cut on the straight. I think you would only want bias binding if you were making a quilt with a circular shape to it. I have not tried doing the special corners, I just sew a strip to one side, then one to the opposite side and fold under and stitch to the back, then do the same for the other two sides making sure the corners get folded under and look tidy.
