Good luck with the fabric buying Monkeynut and well done on the blog Nuttywoman xxx
I have had a mad couple of weeks, after months of hardly selling a thing its been absolute manic but brilliant too. Just about finished making the toy elves now, two of them need hats but run out of red felt so will get a square up the town today. They are just spares though so not so much hurry for them. The ones that are left to post off just need their buttons put on the fronts this morning and then they can be sent off to their new homes. Also sold a couple of cushions from my Folksy shop yesterday so got to post them as well today.
Been making a patchwork apron and matching ovengloves for OH's mum for Christmas, they just need the handstitching bits done on them so can be done tonight while watching tv or something.
I have written out a list of what else I want to make and its getting longer and longer. Need to do a bag for my sister as decided to give her a different one to the one I had made her. Have some more bits lined up for the shop too when I can find time to get it all done.0 -

I'm starting to branch out a little from dress making and have invested in a rotary cutter and cutting board. There seems to be a huge array of non-slip rulers available... can anyone advise me on the most useful to have/essentials?
Also any suggestions on the usefulness of 1/4 inch guide foot for sewing machine or are they just 'nice to have'?MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
The 1/4 inch guide foot is "nice to have", most machines you can adjust where the needle is and move it left or right a bit so you can set it so that the side of your foot is 1/4 inch away from the needle if you get me.
As for the rule, I bought one that is about 6 inches wide and as long as my cutting mat which I think is about 24 inches. I dont have any other ones but would love a square one.
As for the elves, this is a photo of some of them that have already been re-housed. The hats and accessories are made out of felt, the rest is just normal cotton fabrics.0 -

Ladies (I've not seen any gents on this thread?), I'm a bit stuck with my sewing machine. It's a toyota 7700, and a good few years old. It's been fine up until very recently and now I can't get it to work properly. It doesn't seem to be picking up the thread from the bobbin properly and only does one stitch in about 8 leaving loose thread inbetween.
I've tried different tensions and different fabrics and even though I know it is, I have double checked it's all threaded correctly.
Oh and the top thread keeps slipping off the errrm up/down thingy:rotfl:. (no, not the needle:p).
It's booked in for a service next week, but in the meantime I need to get a couple of fancy dress outfits made for DD's by Friday!
I don't suppose any of you have any idea (from my very detailed description:o) what I could be doing wrong??
with thanks, Lisa xfreecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0
