This is my quilt that I've been beavering away on. Tis quite small only 31"x31" but easy to put under the sewing machine.

    more photos on my h*mepage!

Ooo pennib you've inspired me to make a little quilt and maybe a cushion for the single futon in my sewing room (OH calls it the office and my Mum calls it the nursery despite no grandchildren for her yet!).

  • Has anyone ever sewn knitwear? I have a jumper dress that I'd like to shorten to a regular jumper. It's shrunk so is now not modest as a dress and the hips area has stretched not to mention some bobbling too. I think it'd be perfectly functional as a jumper but I'm scared about cutting it and not sure the best way to hem it afterwards. Any tips?

Hope this is the correct thread.

I am hoping to make a rag quilt with loads of old denim trousers.

Am I correct in saying that I have to cut 2 squares(or whatever pattern) of the denim and also a backing fabric?

Do I need to have some form of fleecy quilt stuf (batting?) in between or can I do without? This is for use when I am on the sofa!

I'm no pro quilter so perhaps some else will elaborate.

Question 1: Usually the backing is one large piece of fabric same size and the front has the pattern. But nothing stopping you having both sides patterned.

Question 2: You can do without but the quilt might be a bit floppy. Although you are using denim which is more robust that the typical cotton quilts.

A nice link for quilting tutorial - it really helped me!

well i thought that the back for a quilt was usually in one piecetoo but all the links i have seen for rag quilts seem to make a sandwich of the front and the back together and them later sew them all up.just wanted to make sure i understood!

I have been slowly hand stitching at my patchwork. Long long process. I must have been mad to start it.
Life has got in the way a lot though. Dispite having expected to have lots of time on my hands when DGD started school, it just has not happened.
As the saying goes. Maybe next week.
Me too...only have 6 weeks to my craft fair, with a possible other one the next week...need to get a wriggle on!!! Thought I'd have plenty of time now the boys are both @ Uni, but looks like I'll have DH about instead, as he was made redundant this Tuesday!! :(
Can anyone tell me how to stitch a wallet made of cotton fabric.
You will need to stiffen your fabric to give it some shape...as someone else said, check out the no chat thread.

Sorry, not been here for ages, so only caught up with the last couple of pages...no time to read more, as have lots to do...as usual!! I have been visiting our Fb pages, so been keeping up with some of you.

Love the quilt pennib, nice cats!...that was the size of the quilt I made as a play-mat for my grand-niece...my first ever completed quilt!
In the process of making up my first sampler quilt - twelve 12" blocks, sewing on the sashing at the moment, soooo busy with loads of other things, not sure when I'll get it finished! :o

Right, off to finish doing some website work...Photoshopping the pictures has taken aaages

Hi all, does anyone have a recommendation for an overlocker please?

Really want to invest in one as most of the clothing I make is from jersey, but got no idea where to start as I've only ever used a normal sewing machine.

Hi I am looking for some advice. I have a Brother ES2200 sewing machine purchased in 2006 from a company I would rather not name but it has featured on a consumer program recently. It had a ten year warranty but I have had conflicting advice from them on the two occasions I contacted them about a repair and I have got to the stage where I have no faith in them. The problem is that the bobbin case moves sometimes when I am using the machine resulting in broken needles. I love the machine and I phoned another repair company and was advised that owing to the cost of a new bobbin case (£50) is was not worth repairing. I searched on the internet last night and another company would not provide its telephone number or address, the only contact being by email. I am rathersuspicious about this. Has anyone had similar problems with their machine and have they found it cost effective to have it repaired?

Assuming you mean Coopers that was on Watchdog last week :) It was being briefly discussed on the previous page, well mentioned anyway, so there are people on here who have had dealings with them, so hopefully someone will be able to help.
