Pennib. It doesn't feel too itchy but then I haven't actually worn it, just rubbed it on my skin for a bit. The second one is a lot thicker than the first and feels a bit stiff if you know what I mean. I am wondering whether it will soften up as it gets used more. I still have some wool left and will use it all up when I can be bothered to have another go lol, its the rolling out that is putting me off a bit as with my dodgy arms its quite hard work.0

Pennib, I just wrote a comment on your blog but it doesnt look like it went on. Can you check when you have time and if its not there I will do it again xx0

I bought my first sewing machine at the weekend. I dabbled a bit at school about 20 years ago so I am sort of learning all over again!
I have made a couple of sock monkeys so far but thats about it!
I'm looking forward to reading through the thread but thought I would just say 'Hi' before I start trudging through!

Rufusdog the comment went through OK, thank you.
LesleyP1978; You will get lots of inspiration from this thread, especially if you're going to start from the begining:eek: Your sewing machine will soon be part of the family!0 -
I think I'll have to do it in dribs and drabs Pennib!!! Its taken me days to ready through the sock monkey thread and that was only 200 pages!
Here is a pic of 'Fiz' my third sock monkey and the first I did on my machine!0 -
Aww where have you been hiding him/her, that's gorgeous.0

I finished her last night - so much quicker using the machine though to make the body!0

Lovely sock monkey lesley, I made some a few years ago by hand but havent made any using the machine. I might have a go at making some for christmas presents. Would be a good idea for the three great nieces and the youngest great nephew.0

Keiss; Oh I've just got some fabric paint as well! What are you doing for a wall hanging? (not that I'm nosy or owt:o)
Mooloo; Stop looking at Jackies! My latest quilt has been made from fabric from there. Still hand quilting it...going to be some time.
Here is a first for me. Inspired by all your handbags I thought I would have a go. Not using a pattern, just winging it so who knows what the eventual shopping bag will look like!
Close up on usual page.
Will post photos of my pictures once I am done, promise!
One is a landscape (A4 in size) made with some of my hand-dyed material, for my brother. It's the bay where I grew up (you know it, no doubt!). I have done some machine free motion stitching on it, with a bit more to do, then perhaps some work with Inktense pencils....so looking forward to using them. Not sure if I will be using fabric paint on it though.
The other two are presents for friends of mine, husband and wife who have birthdays on consectutive days. They are both going to be the same size (20" x 8") and use my dyed fabrics again. For her I am doing some irises (applique). I will be painting the leaves and stems in fabric paint, and adding detail with the inktense pencils. I am doing a similar design to one that Linda Kemshall does on one of her DMTV tutorials (subscription was my Xmas pressie from DH).
The other picture is of a sailing boat, like one my friend's husband sails. I will be quilting them and then mounting all three on canvas frames (cheap in local £-sh shop).
Hope they turn out OK, not done anything like this before...well, I went to a Landscape workshop last November, and I still haven't finished my landscape yet...not sure I like the materials I used.It was of the bay again, so I have had practice in getting working design sorted.
Right, need to get the pizza base made for tea. Have a great weekend everyone...want to get some sewing done tonight, as will be sorely tempted to head out to the garden tomorrow, though I really need to get these pictures done!!!

Ikea have done it again - this time some lovely bright yellow fabric - 25m for 99cents (I have 4 rolls) - so now got to make a double duvet cover and pillow cases out of one roll with possibly a matching blind or set of curtains and then I thought that the whole cushion or curtain being yellow may be too much so might try and find some grey the colour of the sofa and do it in stripes.
Just a couple of questions - how do i join the fabric together for the duvet? and I have some round cushions that would look good covered just not sure where to begin. I really have got the bug and just want some time off so that I can go to some classes to learn some basic sewing skills.0
