There are so many links and ideas throughout the thread about sewing machines. But the main thing that we all seem to say is to think about what you want the machine for, and to buy the best you can afford in your budget.
Mine are SilverViscount, and Janoeme, with my new one being a toyota.
I would suggest that you dont buy one of the small machines, that are in Jlewis etc, circa £50 odd as they are really more for just doing the odd hem etc.
Aim for a machine that will do the basics, straight stitch, zigzag, button holes and that come with a zip foot too. You dont need loads of fancy stitches but if you can afford a machine with some, then you will be able to expand as you grow accustomed to your machine.
Go to the stores, and try them all out.
See how you like the features. Some have bobbins that drop in, others that go in from below the plates. Its a case of preference really.

Thank you so much for the reply :)

I think I will to what you have said and go try some out, obviously don't want to waste my money on a machine I don't like the feel of :)

I have had another enquiry about bunting. From abroad too. hope that it will come to something. Must remember to put my Mooloo label in anything that I do do, and some business cards. Seem to have either used them all up, or lost them??? So will have to make some of my own, for now.! If I can remember how to use the word processor part of my laptop.!
Making the pink and red bunting at the moment. All out of recycled fabrics, with the help of my local charity shop where I get some great bargains. But means I am always spending in there! Which is not really part of my household budget, and so I will have to start offsetting it with any pin money I make or I will be bankrupting myself all over again.Mind you I spent £9 yesterday, got a lot of bits and pieces, and one of the red items that they sold me for 50p was a brand new dress, florence and fred one, for the summer, and as it just happened to be in my size its not going to go in to be cut up, I am going to wear it.! When the weather is warm enough of course.

Terrible for fabric, must be a fabriholic! or something like that. And I was aiming to only have fabrics that I was recycling this year! Seem to have fallen too quickly into temptation again.!

Oops, me too!! Got more guitar fabric and some easter egg fabric too...much more restrained than my usual splurge on that site!! Did like the look of some of the jubilee/london fabrics...have to hide my plastic then!!

In the middle of making some wall hanging/pictures, will post piccies once I am done.

Have a good week...busy invigilating the next two days, so probably no sewing until the weekend :(

Had yet another order for some named bunting for a baby lastnight.
So this last week there has been 4 confirmed orders, and two enquiries. Things may actually be picking up.
    My Jackies fabrics arrived.
Little dissapointed with the bag of scraps, they really are scraps, and for the life of me cannot currently think what to do with them, alot are actually the selvedges of the fabric and only just over 1cm wide. So it will be something where I would have to oversew them onto somethingelse as they would disappear into any seams. But other then that, loved the fabrics I got.
Had some of the london buses, teaparty, cowboys, and grandprix. Living so close to Silverstone I thought that they may be good for the boys around us.
Its stupid oclock in the morning, I gave up trying to sleep. Brain was all over the place, and even my dreams were horrible, so you dont need to adjust the clocks.!

Great news about your orders Mooloo, maybe Spring is having it's effect, with everyone waking up after the winter slumbers. Well done you :T.

Glad you liked at least some of the things from Jackie, shame about the scraps. Sorry to hear about your bad night....I get that sometimes...often just too much bumping about in my brain, be it good or bad. I find sniffing my lavender heart helps to relax me a bit, often enough to drift off quite quickly.

Been invigilating today, got home to my order of Lumiers fabric paint.:j I can't wait to use it...probably the weekend, or possibly tomorrow afternoon, once I get back form more invigilating.

Think I might haul out the sewing machine and do more free-motion work before tea. Have a stitchy evening everyone.

Rufus: don't give up on the felting. Was it itchy?

Keiss; Oh I've just got some fabric paint as well! What are you doing for a wall hanging? (not that I'm nosy or owt:o)

Mooloo; Stop looking at Jackies! My latest quilt has been made from fabric from there. Still hand quilting it...going to be some time.

Here is a first for me. Inspired by all your handbags I thought I would have a go. Not using a pattern, just winging it so who knows what the eventual shopping bag will look like!
