Always fancied doing a sewing course instead of muddling along trying to work it out myself, might see whats on locally.
Pnnib, DD agonised for a while over which pouch to chose but went for the pink one, she reckons it will be easier to find in an overnight bag
Keisss, course you can make them to sell, I wish I had time to mass produce, I only ever do one or two of anything, so I don't really make to sell altho I'd like to.0 -

The course is costing me £90 and i take my own pattern and material, pins, scissors and measuring tape.
Crickey! I am in the wrong job! I should be teaching sewing for a living, not fostering!. Well maybe I should be doing both! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
My course cost £80 for 10 weeks, 2 hrs per week. I supplied all my own materials. Most of the girls on the course didn't have to pay as it was free for anyone on benefits/ low-income.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Bought some fabric from Ebay to make a Buttercup bag but it seems quite thin. It's 100% cotton. What is the best fabric for bags?0

FC, you can always use another fabric with the one you bought to make it extra thick. I like to use black out curtaining on my bags. When you have cut out all the pieces for the outer bit of the bag then cut the same out of the black out curtaining or whatever you want to use (old blankets work nicely too) and then place all the bits together and pin them so that each piece is made up from the two parts, one your nice fabric and one your extra bit of whatever your using making it double thickness.0

I have just found this group, I learned to sew when my DD was born 13 years ago, I am pretty good at making kids clothes especially summer dresses, my daughter was pretty much dressed in home made until she went to school. I would buy cotton sheeting one in a pattern and one matching in plain. I would get 4 dresses per 2 metres of fabric (sheeting is very wide). I had plain pink and check fabrics, one dress had a plain bodice and checked skirt, the other a checked bodice and plain skirt, the other two dresses were all plain and all checked. I also used a lot of denim type material... favourites being a skirt with front panel (with pocket) like dungarees and cross over back straps, I would embroider my daughters name on the front or sew on patches as well. The same worked well with tartan rather than denim, and she would wear this with a knitted wool jumper underneath (my mum knitted). over the years i have made the same gold silk party dress in 5 sizes as this dress was a huge favourtie. Nowadays as a teenager she very much challenges me, most recently she could not find anything to wear to the school dance, we made a dress from a fitted velvet stretch top, a couple of metres of red silk and some black net with stars attached, it took us about 3 hours and she was delighted with this. Most of my projects are in response to an occassion, such as a wedding, (bridesmaid dress), or play (costumes).0

The course is in a local sewing shop.Have been looking for something for a few years now. There are no courses at colleges nearby and this suits as its only 1 morning a week so i can go when sons at school.
Hopefully i will pick it up and then maybe go on to do a home furnishing course at the same place.:)0 -
Your makes sound lovely Gibson. I used to make skirts and dresses for my eldest daughter when she was little. It was so easy to make a skirt with a piece of elastic round the waist, she used to have them in all colours. I didnt need to make clothes for my youngest as my sisters all have girls just a year or so older than her so they used to give me bags full of lovely clothes for her. Now she is a teenager I have managed to make her a few bits, she had some shorts and tshirts for her holiday last year made out of extra large tops that her Nan was throwing out, also an outfit for a fancy dress party.0
