Just tried to read the No Chat thread and had a message flash up warning about malware. My computer won't let me read the last page of that thread. Anyone else had a problem?

    I'm getting it too

Hello lovelies, and welcome to all the newcomers :T

I finally got round to doing some sewing, first little bit since before Christmas  Life just seemed to get in the way!

Anyhoo I've made a couple of lined jewellery pouches, they have 8 little pockets inside for rings & earings and a central section for bangles etc. One for me and one for DD (who agonised over which one to choose :rotfl:)

More piccies and a tutorial on my blog

My word don't they look posh. Which one did your DD choose!

I thought the same with the Pennypitching cushions. Strange idea to lap the teatowel over the front, never seen that before, made the cushion look untidy. Otherwise a good tutorial for the girls who hadn't sewn before. They seemed really delighted with their cushions :T
  • I just went to the no-chat prob & didnt have any problems & I use firefox & avast free virus protection.

Maybe one of the linked sites had a malware problem earlier but is now sorted? All but one link on the last page were posted by me.
  • Hi all.I am starting a beginners dressmaking course soon and wondered what would be easy enough for a beginner to make.Would trousers be too hard? I would like to make something that i would actually wear( if it turns out ok that is:D)

Tronlegacy Good luck with the course. I have just finished a 10 week course at a local learning centre. We were given the option of learning to do tops or trousers and everyone opted to learn tops. As this could be adapted to do a long dress too, it was useful for us all.I think trousers were more complicated and the girls who were pretty advanced (sewers?:p) seamstresses, did trousers at the other end of the room after they whizzed through doing tops. Depends how long the course lasts for.
Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...
    :D:D:D

I am sure that you will be fine. Sewing is like putting a jigsaw together really. You have to put in one piece at a time, the only difference is that you mostly need to put the pieces in in order first. But really once you have made one thing the mist will have cleared and you can get more and more confident as you go along. Remember most things that you sew incorrectly can be unpicked and re done. Its the cutting out that needs to be accurate.
So just measure twice, and cut once. Make sure that all Grain lines are followed, so the garment hangs correctly, and your half way there.
    Have fun!.

ps. how much do these courses cost these days?
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Good luck with your sewing class tronlegacy, you'll learn so much, and will become confident pretty quickly I bet!

Love your jewellery pouches avstar...do you think I could make some to sell? I'm pretty sure they would be pretty popular. :D

Right, had a depressing morning sorting out some stuff on my computer while listening to the cricket...England have just thrown away what should have been an easy victory...idiots. Managed to work out I have saved nearly £500 this month...so pleased! :D

Now off to have a go at making a purse before lunch, using a freebie kit first to see how it goes. It has a clasp opening and has paper cord too...I already have some of the proper glue, so looking forward to mastering it and then using the other purse clasps to make a few more purses to sell. I had planned to do this before Xmas, but ran out of time. Now need to get going again.

Have a lovey crafty weekend everyone xx.

I went to see Peter Skellern and Richard Stilgoe years ago - they did a great show. One of their songs was - Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory!
