    Hi Spicey

Yes I had a lovely time, got there early so shop wasnt too packed. I chose four fabrics and got a metre of each, then three fat quarters to go with them. Came to about £23 altogether but I had put some money by to treat myself out of my Christmas money. I was pleased as her fat quarters are usually about £2.50 each.

After we left that shop my SIL took me back to hers as she said my BRO had sent off for a mystery box of fabrics from a seller on Ebay. She was hoping for quilting fabrics but the box was mostly full of slinky kind like for tops. She asked if I would like some bits and gave me enough to make three tops I think, might be four. Plus she gave me some other smaller bits that might come in handy may be for lining bags or something and a piece of thicker stripey cotton for bag making.

I will try to get a photo taken and put it on my blog in a bit before I take it all upstairs.
You did well in that shop. I have just seen the Mother's Day cushion on your blog - love it. Is it a zip opening as the verse seems to rule out an envelope style? I watched The Super Scrimpers the other day - making cushions - couldn't work out the opening on them - it looked as though it was pillow case style but not mentioned.

I have this months copy, but I have cancelled my DD now. Not sure if I will still have another issue due or not.
Have the Lisette pattern, of course the sizes are not the correct one for me, so I have had to send off for an order of the next size,, which still hasnt arrived. ! Quite frustrating. But there you go.
I think that over the years I have tried so many magazines, and in the end they all become very samey!
I have cancelled mine as well.

Oh wow lots of bits for your money and some freebies too! I have been looking at fat quarter bundles but not sure what sort of price is reasonable?

Can't wait to see it all and what you make with the fabrics too :)

    Hi Florence

I put a zip at the bottom of the cushion. I have never made an envelope one before as I usually do something on the backs.

I have put some pics up on my blog showing what I got today. I am well happy with it all. I just want to get some plain white cheap stretchy fabric to use as linings for the tops as the fabrics are quite sheer.

Hi all! I'm venturing on here for the first time looking for some help. I was a sort-of sewer in my youth as my Mum taught us the basics. Apart from the odd hand-sewing bits and pieces I haven't sewn for years!
I have just done a basic sewing course and have just been very kindly given a beautiful sewing machine on Freecycle.
I can't find an instruction manual for free online, and am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
It's a Winfield and says on it Model FW131 foreign. It is a gorgeous machine, but I haven't even been able to thread it so can't have a wee play.
Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

Spicey - I think £2.50 is a reasonable price for a fq although plainer ones could be cheaper. If you are buying designer fabrics they can be over £3 or even more. If you are buying online you have to add in the postage charges. I have bought fqs off ebay sellers before but mostly use those sellers if I am looking for a fabric with a special theme to it as its easy to search and find what you want. Sometimes you can find a seller on there who does good pp rates for more than one fq but they still bump up the price and they are not much cheaper than buying in a proper fabric shop. If you Google quilting fabrics for your county you might find some shops near enough to you to warrant a visit and the fare might work out worth it to stock up. Another way is to visit craft fairs if they are in your area which have stalls for quilting. They often have special offers on their fabric and you can get some bargains.

I have been in the patchwork shop in Rochester - when I go to visit my friend in Chatham. There is some lovely stuff in there. I bought some lovely ric rac/buttons and ribbon in there. Last time we went to Rochester - we chickened out of going in there - always spend so much.

I know what you mean Florence, she has it set out so nicely, its like paradise walking in there lol. I learned to quilt in there a few years ago, she gives lessons of an evening downstairs in the shop.

i too saw this episode and was watching with baited breath to see it was made. i am very new to sewing and although i have made a fabulous long corduory pencil skirt, got quite a lot of help with it through a sewing club i have just joined. i have 22 inch cushion pads and managed to find a lovely offcut in cream with bugle beads on it but have not set up machinne at home yet to try and tackle a project on my own. i did intend to sew 3 sides and then hand sew 4th side once cushion was inside. but not really the done thing. so i watched and it definitely had an overlap on back of cushion which i am guessing is envelope style. so could someone tell me how i can do that please?
