Very happy to report that I had just failed to thread the machine correctly - got it right now and it works like a dream! I will be spending tomorrow playing with my new toy :j

Gulp! Not sure if I can make anything worth showing yet, but I have already been up in the loft and brought down all the old fabrics and clothes and denims etc. that I have saved for up to 20 (yes, 20!!) years thinking "one day I'll make a nice patchwork quilt and this will come in handy".

I now have piles of stuff all over the living room - which I deliberately tidied up and cleaned before Christmas so I could do exactly this.

I've also saved lots of t-shirts (the good quality type) and wonder what I can make with those. I'm going to have a look at the threads here for ideas now.

I've just been cutting my t-shirts into strips for crochet. I'm thinking of making a bathmat. If you want to know how to do it there's a tutorial here - it's dead easy http://www.spiritedshannon.com/2011/08/t-shirt-yarn-tutorial.html

Florence the room looks lovely with it all in there xx

Hmo, thanks for the link, there are loads on there. I managed to make one up myself after all as I had to do a bit of sewing this morning anyway. I have put some more photos on my blog.

I have had an order for another house cushion so I was working on that this morning. Luckily I had a front that was almost done so I just had to add the people for her family she wanted. I will finish it off over the weekend as OH is off for a couple of days from tomorrow.

You don't use the same scissors for cutting paper patterns AND the material do you?

no, I meant cutting out the fabric after I have cut out the paper pattern. The blades are quite thick & I found that my cutting was not accurate when cutting anything that wasnt a straight line. I will keep them for cutting wadding & interfacing. My new ones will be staying well hidden from the other family members!

All my bits are packed away too - I am desperate to have a little try out!:rotfl:

  • Hi

I was wondering if anybody would be able to recommend a good book or website for altering clothes?

I have recently lost a bit of weight but can't really afford to get many new clothes. I got a sewing machine for my birthday and was thinking I could re-design or re-size some of my clothes rather than send them to the charity shop. I have done a bit of a google search but got a bit overwelmed by the number of sights and thought I would stop and ask for some advice! :o

  • Hi, I wondered if anyone knew where I can buy patterned felt? I've seen some on ebay but it's very expensive, and not really what I'm looking for.

Ideally I'd like polka dot or stripes - I got a lovely book for Christmas and patterned felt seems to be used for a few things.

    Thank you for your help.
