    Hello everyone,

My mum bought me this sewing machine for Christmas as I've been wanting to get adjusting/mending/making on one for ages and I'm all ready to go :j I've spent the last two days doing straight lines, zigzags, swirls and attempting letters on old T-shirts and vests and looking forward to my first project. I think for something easy I'm going to turn some of DDs old printed clothes into wheat/rice bags for gifts. Going to be keeping my eye out for cheap fabrics in the market/local shops.

Am also contemplating asking a couple of close friends to toss any old clothes they don't want my name, when they have clear outs, so I can keep on practicing without worrying about ruining expensive fabrics but I'm a bit worried it might come across as rude/begging

I've been looking at some of the things you've been doing on here and I'm really impressed! :T

    Anyway wish me luck!

if they're good friends then they won't think you're begging - and you can always make them a wheat bag as a thank you.
    Good luck :)
  • jpscloud, I visited a girl with a new argos sewing machine xmas prezz, she had threaded it and then decided to sew on fresh air, this made all the top thread get knotted like yours,
another visitor helped me remove the screws from the plate and in doing so he said the bobbin housing fell out, when I replaced it I had to move the 2 black pegs back into place which hold it in - sliding them to another position.
This means that they werent holding the bobbin housing in to start off with.
wonder if yours are in correct place.
Also I checked the threading and it wasnt exactly correct as per the book.
I just sewed an inch with it after Id replaced bobbin so I dont know if it's an ongoing fault, it's unlikely to have been used much since I left.

There is also the sewing room no chat thread full of tutorials & ideas for things to make.

If anyone finds or uses a tutorial then please add it to that thread.

Santa was very kind to me - I got a brilliant pair of "proper" dressmakers shears (proper scissors are shears lol) as the pair I use are just cheapies and no good for cutting out patterns but OK for general fabric cutting. I also finally own a copy of the bag makers bible and another book called "quilt yourself gorgeous".

HMO your pressie is so lovely! I would choose that over expensive jewelery anyday!

Hope you all had a good Christmas! Ours has been busy, busy this year so far and we are off to the panto at Wimbledon tonight. I am looking forward to the weekend as it is the only time we don't have any plans this week!

However, after last years disaster of a Christmas I don't mind one bit. (Last year the kids had a virus which turned into croop with DS2, who had to spend Christmas Eve daytime, in hospital with his breathing, DH felt rough Christmas Day & then developed swine flu Boxing Day & was completely unable to move for the next 2 1/2 weeks and the cooker blow up Christmas day halfway through cooking the pots & veg , luckily we were able to cook our dinner in our neighbour's house!) So don't think we can ever top that!

Hope you all had a good one!

My sewing machine is sat in it's case. I have just said goodbye to house guests but have more coming tomorrow. Do I tidy up or get the machine out?

    Morning all

Hope you are all having a lovely Christmas and bank holiday. Do any of you have a link to a good Kindle case please? I searched the no chat thread and there is one listed on there but the link goes to another page.

I got this door stop made in time for Christmas. It is for my Grandson's bedroom - made to match the curtains and bunting I made for his room.
