I have an overlocker, and often forgot to take the pins out. Its a pain!.
I usually have to undo all the threading down below, clean out the area thoroughly. I use a paintbrush, sometimes I just dip the tip into some lubricant, or if push comes to shove i use a bit of WD40. But would need to sew on some scrap for a bit afterwards.
change the needles!.
Also take a look at the cutter blade? is that in line? I have had to replace mine. Mind you in some 15 years I have only changed the blade once!!!!
good luck anyway.
I have not been anywhere near my new sewing machine for days. It is sitting on the dining table here in the sitting room, all set up and ready to go, and I am so far behind in my makes, but alas I have been so ill, that I have not got any of the tasks done for some time.
I managed to hand sew a couple of stuffed hearts last night, but thats been my limit.
I havent touched my blog in so long, nor my website.
I still havent sorted out my pictures on Folksy or Etsy either. So there is no chance of me making any sales this side of the spring!.
Maybe in the new year, God will bless me with a bit of better health and I will catch up. I think I really will need to start for next Christmas as soon as this one is done.
Had to buy a present today. Was not impressed!. So wanted to have made most of the gifts this year. Oh well there is always next year.
Great makes everyone. I am still inspired, just unable to work!!! So frustrated really. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
OOh have our machine's all had enough? There seems to be a lot of breakdowns, we've been working them too hard all year! Hopefully they can have a rest over Xmas and be raring to stitch in the New Year.
Pennib, gorgeous cushions!
Lauraoar, love the kindle case, it's def on my to-do list.
I've finally finished my Christmas apron, totally impractical and I'll only be wearing it after I've finished cooking the turkeyMore pics on my blog inc falling off my high heels :rotfl:

Hi, I have made more pairs of shoe stuffers using Cath Kidston
fabric. I perfumed the stuffing with a Rose fragrance. I have refined my
design - removable linings so the covers can be washed easily.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I couldn't find my dried Lavender when I looked for it yesterday. I found a Rose Pot Pourri refresher oil so I used that - can't get the smell of Roses off my fingers!
I have another four pairs to make still! Plus other makes!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hiya,
I have never posted on this thread, but I have just been given a sewing machine and was wondering where to start? I wanted it mainly to repair and add embellishments to my clothes.
I am only 22 so the only experience of this sort of thing was in school when I made a puppet and a cushion.
If anyone could give me any advice on where to start, where to get material and thread to practice etc, I really am unsure where to begin.
Thanks in advance! Samanthax

Hi Samantha I'd have look and see if you can find any old clothes or sheets that you could practice with. Cushion covers are a good starter just to give a bit of confidence. Little stufed fabric hearts are pretty easy if you like them. Even if you don't they make great presents. Buy decent quality thread from a sewing shop because thread lasts ages and cheap thread breaks and will frustrate you. Most of all have fun and you will learn from your mistakes.0

Hi tryingtosave, yes I agree with shirlgirl, practice lots on cheap & old fabric, offcuts., sheets etc.
If you google for easy sewing patterns/tutorials or look on You Tube there are tons of very easy makes. Most machine problems are from being incorrectly threaded up, cheap thread, blunt needle, fluff in your machine. Check all those if you have any problems with your machine
Have fun :j0 -
