Or is it a case of buying a pattern I like and adapting it? I thought this might be a cost-busting move as well as injecting some originality into my wardrobe...
Any suggestions greatly accepted!!
Lauroar xx
I can recommend this basic free downloadable top from Colette patterns.
The instructions are clear, the pattern is simple and you can play around with it in endless ways (pin-tucks, inverted pleats, gathers, sleeves, collars etc). Just look here for ideas on variations:

Make one out of an old sheet to start with and get the fit right before cutting into your cloth.

I just finished making these cushions for my Son/Dil - they are made out of the left over fabric from the curtains I made in October. I bought feather cushion inserts from Dunhelm Mill - size 56 cms/22 inches.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Here's a kindle cover I've made for my Aunty for Christmas. I got the instructions from the moda bakeshop website. I'm not sure whether to put the applique flower on the front or not yet.
That looks great! I made one from that site as well and I didn't put the flower on. I think they look good as they are.

Disaster!
My sewing machine just started to run by itself, then the foot pedal started to smoke! I unplugged it all and it stopped, and hubby found a large bit of melted plastic inside
Thank goodness I can finish most of my presents by hand, but does anyone know a good place to get replacement parts? It's a 1960s Singer if that helps!0 -
Sorry can't help. These things always seem to happen when we are so busy. I am so missing my overlocker - been told I may have bent the right looper.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Unfortunately I can't help you but I recommend you ask your question on 'The Sewing Forum'.
They have very knowledgeable people there as well as technical people. If they cannot help they will certainly be able to point you in the right direction.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I have a 1950/60 Bernina & there are always parts n ebay. However, my foot also smouldered & had to be replaced but my local sewing machine repair guy sorted it out. It has a modern generic foot & not a bernina. The modern foot was £25 but an original would have been a lot more.0
