rosalie-lavender - Your dresses are beautiful... do you do wedding dresses ;) ?

Tete en L'Air - sooo cute
  • We didn't have a very good sewing day yesterday.

We started on my son's messenger bag. The cutting went fine. It said to use iron on interface so we did.

Then came the sewing, oh dear! It all got sort of scrunched up in the machine, what a mess, then my son triend to unpick it all and split the material!

Not sure really where we went wrong, any advice appreciated. Perhaps i had the machine on the wrong setting? It was working fine with plain cotton, but this interfacing stuff just seem to mess it up :o

On a happier note I bought 1 yard of light sage green cotton velour and 1 yard of wine coloured for £3.50. I want to make bags with it (if we ever sort out DS's one!) and I got some cheap 'shappy chic' floral cotton for lining.

Thanks to everyone for posting their lovely creations to keep me motivated, hopefully one day I'll get the hang of it al :A

aaw, sorry you had a tough time, when i use interfacing i usually leave a gap all around the edges so i dont sew any interfacing (if that makes sense) i think the needle tends to get stuck in it, especially as it has glue in it.

i hope you get on ok.
    totally a tog!:D

Thanks - that's a good idea, would I be able to do this with just the two pieces of material sewn together like I did with the hanger, or would it need a base piece, to complicate things?

I am not sure about that, may be put the sand in a plastic bag inside the cat at the bottom and seal it then stuff with stuffing around the plastic bag??

Haven't made them before but have seen them for sale in shops like Dunelm Mill.
  • Rufusdog A good place to browse patterns is here

They sell the Butterick, Mc Calls and Vogue patterns. If you want more than one pattern particualrly if they are the more expensive Vogue ones then I recommend buying the sewing world magazine. It has a coupon in it for buy one get one free. With Vogue pattens being in the region of £10 plus you would pay for the magazine and still save money. The offer is for all patterns not just the ones featured in the magazine.

Simplicity patterns are also available online but I don't seem to have a link for it but I am sure you could find it if you google for it.

Peppop I can do wedding dresses but I don't because I don't have the time and with three messy teenagers around I couldn't guarantee the state it would finish up in. :)

Thanks for the tip. It's a bit of a steep learning curve!

My OH got my Cath Kitson, Sew for Valentines Day! It came today :D

I've nearly finished the bag which comes in kit form with it. Much happier today, pity I need to tidy up though, we need the table to have tea!

I loved Sunshine's puffy bag posted yesterday so I made myself a pattern and got making one.
I love it, but it was such a faff!!! I wouldn't attempt one this small again, I think it might be nice larger and would make a lovely bag for a bridesmaid in appropriate material with a drawstring top perhaps, sorry thinking out loud here...

Anyhoo, I think its a bit small to be much use to me, I was hoping for a makeup bag, but its not big enough really, so I plan to use it to keep my small bag bits in, memory sticks, painkillers, hair bands and bits like that.
The photos show how small it is, its in my hand:

I don't blame you but you can tell - I could picture the dresses you made for your daughter in white or gold and thought they would make perfect wedding dresses.

Kandi as usual your makes are stunning. Love the baby bag - cute

Last night DD and I were browsing some of the dress pictures on photobucket and she was picking out all the dresses she fancies.

She liked all the frothy meringue type dresses and decided that's what she wants if she gets married. Small problem that she hasn't even got a boyfriend yet-too busy with her beloved singing. "oh well" she said "if I don't get married I will have the dress and big party and marry myself." It looks like I won't get out of it whatever she does.:rotfl:
