  • I went to the sewing machine shop today. They were really helpful. At the moment my I'm swaying towards this one although it's more than I was planning on spending

    http://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/Janome525_info.htm

I purchased a Janome Sewist 625E from http://www.bambersew.com in Dec 2008 and it's a good, solid machine. (The 625E seems to have disappeared from the Janome range now but the 525 is very similar.)

After having 2 electronic machines previously that proved problematic and potentially expensive to repair I opted for a good solid manual machine. (Btw, both electronic machines were purchased elsewhere.)

Depending on what you're looking to sew, one of the less expensive Janome machines may be suitable for your needs?

If you're within travelling distance of Bambers then go along and have a play on different machines in their showroom - there's an impressive range of machines on display for you to try out.

Sunshine21 - that bag is brilliant - the way you had described it I was expecting to see a tangle of material and threads but I'm well impressed. Did you follow a pattern?

I'v not been sewing much this weekend as been busy and had company (!?!?!?!) but managed to make this little sock monkey:

I dont know how to reduce the size of the photos so apologies!!! (if anyone knows can you tell me!).

If you look at your photo in photobucket, if you hover over the photo with your cursor you will get a list of options popping up at the top, one of which is resize.
Choose medium which is about right for forums and save it. Or if this does not work you can choose : edit - resize - and from the preset sizez chose medium (225 x 320).

    Hi Kandipandi,

Your sock money is fantastic!!! I love the colours and the hat and scarf are very cute!!!

My bag was from a tutorial here (puffy pouch). (I love Pink Penguins blog.) I wont be able to use the bag as the inside is a bit messy. My material kept fraying and I made quite a few errors along the way but I think I might get a bit better at it if I keep trying! (hope so anyway!) x

  • Looking at the tutorial for the puffy pouch, instead of using velcro it also uses a flex frame.

I have made bags using a metal tape measure - it works the same way as a flex frame and you can get quite a lot of bag closures out of a £1 metal tape from Poundland.

I do have a tutorial for making a bag with a tape measure closure which I can send by email, but unfortunately I can't add as an attachment because I am a new member.

If anyone wants a copy, please PM me.
  • I meant to say that this tutorial is written by me, so it isn't copyrighted to anyone else.
