Its just for the bag handles :)

fusibale interfacing or interlining is readily available from fabric shops and the net you can normally get it in light medium or heavy weight, the shop i get mine at sells it on rolls and you can buy as much or as little as you like.

if its for bag handles i dont normally use it, i just fold fabric in half then bring the edges to the fold and fold again so you hav about 4 layers which is usually enough weight

Hello people! Im desparate to get on and play around with my sewing machine, ive got all these ideas in my head of things I want to make but havent a clue on where to start!

I have 4 children aged between 5 months and 10yrs (2 girls, 2 boys) so i'd love to start some little projects to make something nice for them.

Could anyone please point me in the direction of some easy projects for complete beginners? x

You can use your user name information to insert your "homepage" link. That way your link can be accessed in a round about way.
If you look on the name of people and see if they have a homepage and then click on it, you will see some are blogs, some are folksy or etsy linked, so sure you could do a facebook one. Or join our Facebook family? There are links to that in the last few pages somewhere. Havent got the time to find it and put a link now. Running late.

  • Hi, would this be the right place to ask about a sewing machine problem? I'm a sewing machine novice and I think I have a tension problem... what it is is I'm sewing two layers of thin velvet type material with a thinnish piece of wadding (a spike in a dinosaur costume!), and the bobbin thread is going bonkers - does anyone know what I should be doing to sort this out? I've tried the manual and adjusting various things but I'm not getting anywhere, if anyone can help that would be fantastic!

Hya Anacrusis - Only just started playing with sewing with wadding and different materials myself.

I have found not only reducing the tension (down to 3 on my machine, it will no doubt be different on yours), but using a quilting needle, or at least a heavy-weight needle (size 90), as well as lengthening the stitch and not going so fast has made a world of difference!! The velvet may be slowing the feed dogs too, so try reducing the foot pressure too. Try practicing with scrap velvet and wadding to try and get the tension right. It may take quite a bit of fiddling though. :o

    Good luck!!

Been making loads of little bags lately, just need to make and attach the handles, then I'm start making decorations ...much more christmassy! Piccies to follow once I can find the camera.

hmo - love the wreath, so effective!! May get around to making one eventually!

Can someone please give me an idea of how much stock they take to craft fairs to sell....really worried I won't have enough for the two fairs at the end of November!!

Also thanks for the info on the interfacing :)
  • Having a day of uninterrupted sewing today! Got so many projects flying around my head, mostly xmas bits, need to crack on. Learned how to sew a buttonhole with my machine today, am having a go at a version of the CK tote bag pattern from the free newspaper booklet. If it turns out alright will go with my Auntie's xmas pressie. Happy sewing all!:)
