Can I join the thread? Admitedly I'm that much of a sewing newbie I'm not convinced I know which end of a needle to thread but I'm going to try!!!
For Christmas, I'm planning on making some doorstops, some mini bird things for the tree and a, umm, thing to hang on the back of the door for my DN which is like I gues a door hangar with pockets for stuff (I know what I mean!!!) . Also maybe a table runner for my mum. And some sock monkeys.
Hmm - not sure I'll have time to do all of this!!:(
I'll let you know how I get on!!0 -

Hi Rosie, if you get the bug, with all of us here, you will be an expert in no time. I think there are links to all the things you want to make somewhere on here, or on the various, links on the No Chat thread.
Happy sewing. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I've made this top out of some bark cloth curtains I got at the car boot.

hi can i join the thread as well i have started recently making felt monsters for my little boy and people are asking me to make them for there children as well - dont think they are good enough to sell yet though also just started making sock kittens and zombie tiny plushies. Would love a sewing machine as my m.e means im unable to stitch as much as i would like when i want but could only afford one of those tiny ones at the minute and not sure if they are any good? any reviews would be great x0

Welcome legio and rosie. Legio Im not convinced about the tiny machines TBH. Granted, Ive never actually owned one but I cant imagine something that cheap would be any good. You dont have to buy an expensive machine but I think the ones that are £20/£30 would end up being a waste of money. You would be best to save up and maybe get one thats around the £90 mark which is likely to last a wee while longer. x0

I am doing some sewing at the moment - bunting for a baby' room. I also want to make a doorstop for the nursery. I like this style of doorstop but I am sure Mum will want to wash the doorstop so I need to make the cover removable - can anyone suggest how to do this please? This is the doorstop -

Personally, I would cut the pattern out slightly smaller in strong fabric and fill.
Then make the actual doorstop in the fabric of your choice as per the pattern and put the filled shape inside. You will need to adapt the outer cover to make an opening with velcro, zip or buttons, but it can then easily be removed for washing :j

Advice re machine please.
Not sure if anyone can help. I have a Toyota Quiltmaster machine which is s year old. Straight sewing is fine, but I have just tried something fancier for the first time in ages. When I do a 'wider' stitch like zig zag the fabric is bunching up so that the stitches look like a rolled edge. I have tried adjusting tension and stitch length to no avail. The troubleshooting guide is no help.
Any suggestions?
