  • It's my birthday next month. i'm thinking about asking OH to get me this

    http://shop.stitchclub.co.uk/make-a-set-of-zip-cases-200-p.asp

I thought it would be good to learn how to do zips,

    Any other suggestions? :A

Have a look at this http://www.ehow.com/video_4429075_homemade-makeup-bags-zippers.html

I watched her videos showing how to put a zip in a skirt. The skirt didn't fit but the zip was in lovely!!

Hi everyone, I have been here (honest lol) and love all the work eveyone has done :D

I just thought I would drop a line and tell you about the fabric I found in a charity shop yesterday, just over 6m for £4.00 :D.

I am going to make two seat pads for my chairs and put some little curtains on the cupboard my OH made in the alcove (Im getting fed up waiting for him to put doors on it lol) and I want to edge my curtains as my living room is a very boring beige at the mo.

I have sort of started them, just need to sew it together and Im going to add some red satin ribbon ties.

I hope to post pics when I have done :D but here is it shaped lol.

Dont know why the pic is small :(

I have also brought two books for £1.25 each, one is '' how to make dinosaurs and dragons'' (should please my DS) and ''soft toys to sew''

I am so pleased with my bargain hunt but still need more time so I can get more done (boy is it frustrating, so many things to do and so little time)
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

  • For anyone interested here is a box set of sewing DVD's from Amazon
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/10-Pack-Sewing-DVD/dp/B000XZ8QIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1265908820&sr=1-1

5 double sided DVD's for under £10. I bought a set last month and still haven't had time to watch all but those I have seen I've found interesting.
The woman who presents the DVD's is the editor of Sewingworld magazine and they are available individually on their website at £12.95 each. One shows the different feet and the effects you can create with them. Another shows how to make cushion covers and curtain tie backs. I've not seen the curtain one yet.
It would make a lovely Mothers Day pressie.
Forgot to say - she shows how to put a zip in too.
I also bought this set last year at the same price. It's not available at the moment but it is worth looking out for. http://www.amazon.co.uk/10-Pack-Patchwork-quilting-DVD/dp/B000XZ8QIU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1265909684&sr=1-1

  • I'm loving all your projects, you busy bunnies! :T:T:T

Just had to share this with my fellow seamstresses (is that a word :o ??). It's a passport cover and I've made three over the last couple of evenings. They're only small so it's a good way of using up little pieces of material (or FQs).

I'm off to make more!
PS The tutorial is on my blog if you fancy having a go x

Thank you! i've not seen it mentioned before.

the pieces are looking much more like pieces from the American Primitive tradition - which is totally fine by me!

on a side note, i ordered the Homestyle book from the library over 2 weeks ago as the one in my local had 'disapeared' only to find they ALL seem to have been stolen from the county service. grrr. whilst i'm normally very mild mannered, i do believe in karma, so i hope those thieves machines break, their floss gets too tangled and all their seams are wonky!!

I got this material as an off cut from my local fabric shop for 50p (I still have a lot left!) - it is quite heavy duty curtain material (it snapped my sewing machine needle :(), so I made a tote bag from it - my first attempt and I'm quite pleased with it. It is lined with cream silk (also 50p!!). I did iron some interlining on the back of the outside material and the back of the inside pocket to stiffen it.

I think when I make another I will get a bit more creative with the handles and add some metal bits near the bottom to make it look like more of a proper bag, perhaps I'll alter it when I find some. Anyway its quite big and will fit all of my rubbish in! - tonight I might attempt a matching wallet or makeup bag?
