Well in your case your complaint is understandable, but there have been lots of others on this thread simply complaining about being IDed when buying products actually containing alcohol.0 -
Darksun, thanks for that, I have put an email of complaint in to the store.0

You can't have it both ways.
You say the cashier asking a 30-year-old for ID is just doing her job. Fine. But that means that every time the same customer doesn't get IDed, the checkout people are neglecting their jobs.
By praising the one person, you're chastising the rest. That's fine by me, as long as you acknowledge that you're saying that 99% of supermarket cashiers don't do their jobs properly.
That's the choice. Either the one cashier is too incompetent to judge a customer's age, give or take a decade, or all the other cashiers are negligent. Take your pick, but you can't have it both ways.0 -
It will never happen of course, since the supermarket profit margin on alcohol is large; hence their fear of losing their licence, and putting the onus on poorly paid staff who are encouraged to not show any discretion or common sense.
It's not actually, supermarkets make massive loss on the sale of alcohol, they just make up for it with clever tactics like getting customers to purchase food alongside it, like a crate of beer and BBQ stuff.trying to become a moneysaving student0 -

You see that all the time on here "they have a massive profit margin" etc. Retail mainly has a very small profit margin, supermarkets around 3 to 5 % overall net profit margin on turnover. http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/ratios/ror12.htm0 -
This is one of the images that Asda use in their think 25 training programme, I couldn't tell the difference in ages to be honest, and I've worked in retail since I was 16.. it doesn't get any easier judging someone's age, because there is no 'norm' on what you can base your decisions as every human being is different.
Everyone matures differently, and everyone judges people's ages differently. I don't see why people have to get up in arms about being asked for ID.trying to become a moneysaving student0 -

TBH it is Head Offices fault rather than the person who served you or the people in store.
For some reason all Alcohol Free wine/beer etc gets a till prompt telling the cashier to apply check the person buying the product is over 18 and to apply Think 25. When I worked there we were always told to go by what the till told us rather than thinking oh its ok theres no alcohol/not much alcohol in it.0 -
