Several times I got mistaken for 28 - 29 when I was actually 18.
I was in a pub many years back with about a dozen friends when it was raided by the police; they picked me - I was legal and one of the girls whose 18th birthday we were celebrating so that was OK! They didn't bother with the rest - all of them were underaged! It is totally subjective and if the police can't get it right ....
OTOH the cashier's job is at stake and the company might even try to recover the fine from her wages!0 -
Well they cant recover anything from the cashier wage but they can sack him/her and get fined and even jail time now. IF your anoyed at the goverment its misguided measures then write to your MP go to one of his surgeries Don't take it out of the people just operating the system. It just makes yourself look more suspicious and a bit of !!!.0

well jeez i can see you would be delightful customer to ask for id if you were ever at my till, yes it may be annoying but theres no way round it, if you get asked for id and none on you then the sale is refused full stop
Perhaps you could explain why you think it is acceptable to ask a 30 year old for i.d when they want to purchase alcohol.
I can think of no rational or logical explanation for it. It is certainly not to prevent the sale to an underage drinker
My own view is that alcohol should only be sold in off-licences or pubs, where entering these premises is for one purpose only.
It will never happen of course, since the supermarket profit margin on alcohol is large; hence their fear of losing their licence, and putting the onus on poorly paid staff who are encouraged to not show any discretion or common sense.
The supermarkets over reaction is similar to garages suddenly asking for I.D. to prove you are old enough to drive, and hence purchase a car - done in the interests of preventing underage drivers.
It is all pure nonsense.0 -
Iceland seem to have a rather outlandish policy on alchohol they ask everyone for id regardless of how old they look and refuse to sell if you cant produce any at least my two local ones do. I'm 33 i certainly dont look under 25 and i find the policy completley idiotic.:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Try and apply some intellect. This has absolutely nothing to do with the government - the alcohol laws, themselves, are reasonable.
How hard is it to understand that the issue here is the ham-fisted way in which many supermarkets are imposing their own ridiculous policies on customers and staff; policies that are well in excess of what is reasonably required in order to comply with the law.0 -

Time in jail for selling alcohol to a 30 year-old, because you've not asked for ID? Really? :rolleyes:0 -

When I was in Sainsburys a few months back, a checkout lady was serving one of her colleagues, and said to her that she knew she was 20, but she had to ask for her ID. What rot.0
