The Great Declutter Part 2

I’m pleased to say that I achieved my goal of de-cluttering the bathroom and airing cupboard last night!
I was also hoping that I’d have a day of no ‘ins’ but OH brought us both thermal base layers for our outdoor activities. I attempted to educate him into throwing one item of clothing (or anything) out now that he’d brought a new item in…. it fell on deaf ears, men!!! How do you encourage them to de-clutter???
In:
Thermal base layers for me and OH
Out:
From bathroom and airing cupboard; old deodorant, rubber gloves with holes in, old razor, nail brush, old toothbrushes (used for cleaning grouting), free samples that I’ll never use so in the bin they went, sun shimmer moisturiser (past its best), some towels demoted to dog towels.
Other out:
2006  Packet mix of Beef Stroganoff found in the depths of our kitchen cupboard for dinner. (We are still alive so it must have been ok)
Boden Catalogue
Cotswold Outdoor Catalogue
Ferrero Rocher (chocolates eaten, plastic box recycled)
Note to self: must try harder to declutter more !!! :think:0 -
It is actually much warmer here today.. the evil white stuff has almost gone and though it is raining lightly it is so much less depressing.. the weather is on the improve (hopefully!) and spring is on its way...
In.. Nothing as yet!
Out.. 1 binbag rubbish from my bedroom.. I am looking for a specific piece of paper and in the process have flung lots
1 binbag also filled for charity shop
4 rolls wallpaper for charity shop
4 parcels of catalogue returns sorted awaiting collection.. ROOOOOOOOOOOOM
I found carpet in my room!!! It is hideous I want to rip it up and bin that too!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Morning all - I have to agree with Kimitatsu and ClaireN75 about the need for organisation. I often think that having suitable storage for what you have got and need to keep is part of the decluttering battle - especially as that often helps you see where you need to declutter (e.g. too many shoes on the shoe rack, bottles in the bathroom cabinet etc!)
Anyway last night I went home and successfully found homes for everything on the settee, either around the house or in the bins! (I'm sure more paper/card reycling leaves our house than ever enters!)
Put the recycling bins out last night too so hopefully they'll be collected today.
Also lots of washing all ironed and put away which is only decluttering in the future but it's a start.
Tonight's challenge is the little pile of stuff on the floor in the office - got it down from several big piles and a box before Christmas but this is the residue - and I need to keep the settee clear too!Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Today's job was under my bed...I thought it wasn't too bad and I'd only throw away a couple of tshirts or something from one of the suitcases but I've been ruthless!

More Toys to go in attic for NCT sale.
I've also sorted out the clothes that DS1 has grown out of, boxed them up and put them in the attic until DS2 grows into them.
Out Finally had our recycling collected.
Nappies gone to the Nursery at school
old highchair gone to family holiday house
To do - get to the charity shop with some donations.
I really need to get my head around throwing stuff out. Sometimes I don't throw things out as I think I may find somebody who could make use of the stuff, but rather than keeping things I need to throw them away! In fact "Throw it away" may become my motto this year!0 -
Baby steps
The rubbish should be collected tomorrow so I have put outside 3 sacks of rubbish I took out of attic last week and didn't put out because of snow. I hope it is all collected tomorrow then I can fill the bin again:j
Meantime opened a drawer in the kitchen to get the sellotape and noticed there was now room in it. My policy of 'a quick look to see if anything can go whilst I'm in here' is working and I found a stray pen top to bin.
I have tidied my wardrobe this week and some of the cupboard on the landing. I sure this will help, one to encourage me to put things away after use and secondly to be able to see what can go once the weather lets me get things away from the house again.
I'm trying to read these posts every day as they are really keeping me on track so thank you to everyone:T
