The Great Declutter Part 2
Comments
-
I've still managed to do a few bits of decluttering in spite of being really busy over the last few days. So here goes:
In: 3 gifts for various presents later this year
Out: 2 cookbooks and some more clothes given to a charity shop.
I want to do more though. I've a small cupboard I'd like to sort through but think it'll take me forever so I'm kind of putting it off. Small steps!

I am loving the "In" and "out" philosophy, so please can I join in starting tomorrow?
I have recently lost a massive amount of weight so have tons of clothes to send to charity shop/ebay, as well as tons of clutter that is sky high in the spare room that needs sorting
I am a self confessed hoarder who is hoping to change this starting from now:beer:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

And me. Just cleared out another box file and shredded the old bills. Thankfully haven't found any more sellotape.:T
Re hoarding: I'm not going to buy any more Canon printer cartridges no matter what offers are emailed to me.:jI went away and now I'm back.:j:j0 -
I really thought I was the only person in the world not to have a 'show' house. Thanks for all your posts - though I am not getting much decluttering done - I can't keep up with you all!!!
Carrying on from my last post several days ago when I dashed off to do the comps - I did manage to declutter half a box of christmas catalogues to the recycling. One of my big learning points for 2010 must be not to pick these catalogues up and don't have other people collect them for me either - I am rather ashamed to say I found three Argos Christmas catalogues - what an absolute waste!
Not sure that I managed to declutter anything on the 6th.
7th I tried to declutter the freecycle and charity videos that I have collected behind the sofa in the hope that I would get a chance to watch them. It's never going to happen so I now have 78 videos cluttering up the hall waiting to go out to the charity shop.:j But again - may be these should never have made it into the house in the first place - so another learning point for me for 2010 - try and think seriously about whether something is honestly going to be used before buying it/letting it into the house. I also made a point of dealing with the junk mail as soon as it arrived by splitting it into shredding, recycling and bin.
8th - nothing achieved today in terms of decluttering - still trying to get to the end of this thread and have pages to go yet. Oh and I even failed to declutter my dinner away - but that might not be such as bad thing.
IN - food and a DVD (impulse buy - for £5 from Tesco but saw on hotukdeals that it was £3 in Sainsburys - but with the bad weather I thought it might be useful entertainment for the little ones - 2 days later and they still haven't opened it) - Learning point - beware impulse buys.
I think I am losing motivation so I need to do what others advise
Set out a list so that little things can be crossed off
And go round the house every day with a carrier bag and try and fill it.
I also think I need to try the clothes tips too and I like the idea of changing the hangers around which would then show what you had already worn so you can remember to try something different each day.
Thanks everyone for your posts - please keep the tips and motivation coming - I won't be able to do this without you.
Best Wishes

Another staying-in-pottering-and-not-doing-much-else day. It's making me very lazy not being able to go out, I don't get showered and dressed till after 10am, and have a leisurely breakfast checking my emails and this site!
IN: Parish Magazine, few bits of snow on my trousers after clearing the drive.
Wandered round the house and found another motley selection of things to declutter today
OUT:
3 china mugs. These are square and I find it very difficult to drink from them without dribbling! We bought some new ones a couple of weeks ago and there’s no room in the cupboard for these, so they’ll be going to Oxfam.
An empty beer box. There was only 1 bottle of beer left so now the box can be recycled next week.
Liquorice Allsorts. My dad gave these to me before Christmas and I started on them a few days ago. They’re very moreish, but very sweet and I really shouldn’t be eating them. There was about ¼ of the packet left so I’ve been very brave and chucked the sweets and will recycle the packaging.
4 plastic bottles from various chemical cleaners. Found these in the bathroom – we had 3 part bottles of bleach and 3 of the other cleaner, so I poured each cleaner into just 1 bottle and these empties will go in the recycling.
Old pair of prescription glasses. Tried these on and they are absolutely no good for me, so I will take them into an opticians that recycles them.
2 more bits for the homeless shelter toiletries box.
A 2009/2010 local phone book. We were delivered 2 of these last week, so I’ll offer one to my daughter. If she doesn’t want it I’ll offer it on Freecycle, if no takers it will go in the recycling.
3 balls metallic gift tie stuff. I don’t use this so I’ve put it in with all the other Christmas bits ready for Oxfam.
A little book called “Now you are a Grandparent”. We’ve read it and laughed over it, now it can go to Oxfam for someone else to read and chuckle over.
A leather travel jewellery case. I don’t have any jewellery to put in it and don’t take it with me when I travel. I’ll offer it to one of my daughters, if not either Freecycle or Oxfam.
Really must try and get to Oxfam soon. I’ve put off going because of the snowy weather – have to go through country lanes and up hills to get there and I’m not doing it while the roads are so bad. Might try and get there the long way round, but I don’t know if the shop will be open. The bags are currently all in the garage, out of sightKeep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Morning All
You are all doing really well but I think some of you like me have the issue that now work has got back into the swing of things and the kids are back (or not!) at school then life is getting in the way of decluttering.
I know that I certainly have found it more difficult to continue my flying start and although I am still getting rid of stuff, I would like it to be quicker
So in order to try and keep up my motivation, I am going to list 5 things a day on ebay next week, that should give me a good start I feel and hopefully will keep my motivation up even through the snow!
So yesterday IN:
Kids (again with even more snow! - we had another couple of inches yesterday afternoon, oh the joy when it thaws!)
Post!! The postie bless his cotton socks made it up the track and delivered 4 days of post all at once.
Really useful boxes - thanks Craftscholar for the site, great service and very quick delivery
New boot laces for hiking boots
2 pairs trousers from the sales
Food shopping - kids and animals are eating me out of house and home in this weather
OUT:
Old bootlaces
Junk mail
More recycling
Two tops back to Monsoon for exchange for the trousers
So not a great day decluttering yesterday, but I dont have a show house either and being honest never will!! But it will get better slowly but surelyFree/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
Confession - haven't done very well in the last few days. The children are off school so when we dug out and got to Mr T I gave in and got 3 wii games (reduced price!) and then to make them work, got them some school work books too.
Looking at the weather forecast this morning will have to go and do some stocking up of cupboards too. This snow could be on for the next 10 days 2 weeks!! phew do they sell patience for parents too??Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Decluttered under the sink; threw oput old jay cloths that were past their best and some old pots of dried up 'stuff' - no telling what they are any more! Discovered I had three open and half used window spray cleaners - why, when I dont often clean the windows in the first place? Well, probably because I couldnt find one when I needed it so bought another! Anyway, all tidy now so wont need window cleaner for a while
I had the same problem, with Febreeze0
