  • Thanks charlies_mum :hello:

I will of course be rejoining :D - sometimes I feel I'm making progress then it all reappears - like magic!

Have come to the realisation that I am not a tidy person but still aim to clear all my mess. I am a bit of a serial collector, you know the one, 'it will come in useful' then it sits in a drawer for a few years.

My house has much more floor than can be seen at the moment so initial aims are to find that :rotfl:

These threads have been great for inspiration - good luck to everyone.

  • I would like to join please. Our house is reasonably tidy if you don't open a cupboard, if you do you then battle to get it closed again. All cupboards and the attic need de-cluttering big time. OH and I are both hoarders, we'll always keep things cos they might come in useful and we have 3 off spring who although have flown the nest all leave lots of belongings here as the know they will be moving in the coming years. We are going to have to be strong cos things have to go, I want to do some decorating and have a home to be proud of but first I need to get rid of the clutter. The garage and shed can wait till the weather gets warmer - please someone remind me in April.

I have chosen a cupboard to start on tomorrow, it is in the eaves of the boarded out part of the attic. I'll report back, I hope I can let go of some of the stuff in there.

    Good luck to all declutterers

  • I definitely want in on this. I got rid of six bin bags full of clothes today. I have a bit of a problem letting go! :rotfl:

I have a Cupboard of Doom that needs sorting and then I might try to build up to the shed and *gulp* ... under the stairs.

I listed some stuff on ebay today and I also have two bags of baby clothes to give to people with tinies. My babies aren't babies any more.
    That money talks - I can't deny,
I heard it once - it said 'goodbye'!

  • I'm about to embark on a "Wave bye bye to 100 things in 10 days" challenge that I set myself every few months.

I have a good sort out and declutter, and get rid of 10 things a day (by recycling, freegling, charity shop, local tip). I take photos of everything each day and put it on my Flickr so that I can see what's gone. It's very therapeutic and satisfying.

I do this every 4 months because no matter how much I declutter in my house, the stuff that's left seems to breed when I'm not looking!

So, I'll be joining you all on 1st January, to wave bye bye to the first 10 things!

I'm still in for this one. I too have joined the no more toiletries thread!
As some of you from the old thread may remember, I have had to contend with 2 kids birthdays in the last few weeks. With Christmas too I think I have singlehandedly been responsible for the starwars lego shortage!!!!!
DH is going to be forced to return a shelving unit he bought ages ago and grovel to the people in Wickes. Hopefully they'll let him swap it for vouchers.
We are starting our bedroom in January so there will be an awful lot of in and out!
DH is really going to have to pull his finger out this year and actually let go of some rubbish because if he doesn't, I will! *Insert evil laughter here...*

Look forward to sharing the shame over the coming year.

    HI

please count me in too. I have already joined the "no new toiletries" until I have used everthing up but that will take me about 3 years. I dread to look up in our loft. Apparently there are 3 prams up there and my eldest is 17! I would like to make a little money out of the things I no longer need/ use but I detest paypal because of a bad experience with them so I don't want to get involved with ebay.

Hiya SA - you could always advertise things in your local paper. lots of them let you list for free as long as it is under a certain value (think our local paper is about £30) and I often have a trawl through to see whats in there! Things like prams are better going locally anyway due to collection but you could also see if your local NCT has a nearly new sale or table top sale coming up? They have them quite regularly and they tend to be well attended, or contact your local SureStart centre and see if they know of any happening soon.

This made me laugh :rotfl:when we moved house I decluttered loads of DH's stuff, the beloved denim shirts that he wouldnt part with but couldnt be seen out with either became "lost" in the move. He didnt notice for about 6 months after we moved by which time it was waaaaaay to late to reclaim them :T

Ooh, I'm in too please! Keep making very half-hearted efforts, but then give up. Thought things had improved, but having people to stay meant I had to shift piles of junk back into our bedroom from the spare rooms and it's now very hard to find my way across the floor to the bed!
Yesterday I decluttered two piles of paper from the dining room (funny, thought I did that a few months back - this stuff definitely keeps marching back indoors!)
Worst will be the loft. We have a ceiling that needs repairing and need to shift all the stuff from the loft first.
Ho hum, one day I will live in a neat and tidy home. Maybe 2010? Well I can at least aim at keeping it all under control.
Today I will clear a proper path to the bed and tackle a bit more in the dining room. Best of luck folks!

    Hi everyone
Ive made loads of 'to do' lists - one per room! each really broken down into little jobs so whan I mark something off it makes me more motivated to do other things so I can mark more off! if that makes sense! It works for me though as they are all little jobs I can do when watching tv/making dinner.e.t.c.

2010 is going to be a tidying year for me! and a no spending year!!
Sounds like a plan! Think this approach will help me. Thanks!
