The Great Declutter Part 2
Comments

Hey everyone,
I have been trying to read through the decluttering thread (right from day one  eeek!) and I just can't wait any longer! I need to join now!
I've been so excited :j
So anyway, perhaps some normalilty? ( I highly doubt it)
There's My lovely husband and I, and we live in a 3 *whispers 2* bedroom house and apart from the master bedroom, the bedrooms are full of "Stuff". Our bedroom used to be the same but as I've read through the thread I have been decluttering. This is the same for downstairs. It is looking a lot better than before. But there still a way to go. Which is where this lovely thread comes in!
We don't have children, yet, but we are saving up for a house deposit and a baby so while we save I will be decluttering in the hopes of moving to a nice family home with no clutter! :T
Sorry for the rambling, once I pop I just can't stop :rotfl:

WHY do I need/have 23 Lock 'n' Lock plastic containers?
WHY have I kept 6 tea plates and 6 dinner plates (from Next) for 10 years in a kitchen cupboard?
WHY do I have an unused/unloved mini George Foreman grill in my kitchen cupboard?
I could go on but would bore myself and everyone else. Needless to say that by 10.00a.m. tomorrow morning I will be without these items!

23
But yay for finding them better homes
dizzybuff I'd start with the paper and getting a big box for DS's toys. Can always make it into a game or a race for DS of finding everything & putting it in.
Probably need to actually get rid of things too though, i'm way too good at organising my clutter instead of chucking it
If you're ok with fibbing to DS get him to find all the broken toys to send to santa's elves to make new toys
Not hit my target for last week stillI do have 3 things on ebay and a phone ready to post though (still doesnt make 50.. shh
)
Kinda suprised what's selling. Clothes & shoes even in really good condition I can't seem to shift even though they cost a reasonable amount originally but some family guy badges I got for free have 5 watchers and a couple of bids.
I guess they'd make good stocking fillers. going to hunt through other boxes of bits n pieces to see if I have anything similar.0 -
Right I Started. I now have 2 bags of toys for the loft . DS has walked past them and just gone ooooh are those toys for the baby . So thats that sorted . Paperwork . I have decided as long as its not tax related and it isnt a year old its being shredded ( oh apart from birth certs , etc )
went to gamestation and came away 3 consoles lighter and 60 quid in my pocket . Got told off from Oh by not taking it easy . Tonight I will set to work on the butchers trolly which has books from uni on it and they can go on amazon, thats once Ive made t . Which is home made faggots from my freezer with onion gravy and mash ...
I may even ask at work if I can bring in paperwork to be pulped , great working for a gov agency . I will have to pay 10 quid towards the costs but itf it means me not sitting there for hours shredding its worth it.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -
We have been doing a lot of work downstairs. We have our annual Gas check on Thursday so need to get sorted for then. At least it is prompting us to get things done!0

check and see if local schools/groups could use the toiletries - they might be doing boxes for soldiers or poor areas of the world.
Or if you have a homeless shelter/department local, pass to them. (just an idea, if u have the time)

Just thought I'd join in and say how I sort of understand how it is to have a house full of inherited stuff..
Me and partner live in a very small 2 up 2 down which is way to small for 2 adults and 2 maine coons but on top of that we have pretty much everything that no one else wanted from when my partners grandmother died. She was a hoarder and so is my partner so you can imagine the junk I am stuck with! There is not attic or garage to stick it in so it's overcrowding our very small living space. I am slowly persuading my partner to rehome some things in our quest to have a reasonably tidy house and a bit more space. Last week we got rid of a big, unattractive cupboard which just didn't make good use of the large amount of space it took up - it is now on display in a local charity shop window - which makes me happy as I love seeing my things in charity shop windows!!
We are slowly making progress on our mounds of junk and clutter, although I can't see my OH ever letting me get rid of the large collection of chinese ornaments which belonged to his grandmother - so the mantelpiece and several shelves are covered with cheap chinese ornaments. I wouldn't even mind so much if these were her treasured possessions but I strongly suspect these were just things that she had hoarded and were of no sentimental or financial value so no one else claimed them.
Does anyone else have a partner that is a serious hoarder? My OH had a serious problem with hoarding, fortunately he no longer dares to bring in any new junk but it's still very difficult getting him to part with things. He clearly makes an emotional attachment to random things which should be of no sentimental value. The other day I asked him if I could give a cheap wetsuit which has sat in it's unopened box since he got it a few years ago to my parents so they could use it and he just wouldn't part with it. It is of very little financial value and shouldn't be of sentimental value as it's never been taken out the box!
It is sooo frustrating as all I want is a nice, tidy, clutter free house and I'm only making very slow progress yet I'm getting rid of things every week!0
