if you are going to use or display the candle stick a lot i would say go for it BUT if its going to just be used for this dinner party then ask yourslef is it worth it or will it just end up as a piece of 'clutter' youll be looking to get rid of? It might be worth asking on freecycle incase anyone is thinking of getting rid theirselvesSPC~12 ot 124

just gone through the bedding and towels chest of drawers and got rid of 3 towels that are way past their best and 2 of DS's old cot bed sheets (used to belong to DD) that are meant to be fitted towelling but have stretched and are all saggy. I've still got 3 perfectly useable ones and non-fitted cotbed sheets I can use if needs be.
I've also gone through all the piles of paper by the computer and filed away what I need, put some stuff to burn in the woodburner (confidential stuff) and the rest has gone for recycling which will go to Monday.
This feels much better!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
No, I would use the candlestick. I've got my eye on 1 on the bay so will continue to watch it.
Just want to get some pretties for my table, my dining room is very bland (decorated by DH while I was away) and it just lacks that feminine touch.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Cleared out a wardrobe of all my old work clothes - I haven't worked for 5 years so it was time! Took the resulting 4 bags to Mind and feel happy it's done.
It's funny I left it so long, none of it fitted me anymore, just an vague insecure feeling I might need them someday?

Shouldnt really be here again but its raining ... Kaz2904 ...Anyway just to say I too have been silver napkin searching. We (OH and I ) have always used our childhood ones and fabric napkins (Friday is change them day so I have lovely startched new ones for tonight. Only exception is for spag bol - then its paper...) Anyway I got 2 nice ones for the dgks some time ago - new from an antique shop that was closing down. I love the really heavy guage ones (about 45g is my minimum) and have stashed the ones I gotuntil the dgks are [ast the bib stage. Anyway Dgd is now at that stage and I will give her hers when they next visit and teach her napkin etiquette (thought I would also give her a silver cloth so she can be i/c of napkin ring cleaning and changing "like Granny does" on a Frioday) The thing is her Dad (my ds) and her Mum (my ddil) dont have silver napkin rings either - somehow ds missed out - so I have been looking for some for them. New ones were stupid £££ (ermmm 120) but yesterday I happened to see an nice D shaped old one in an antique/junk place ...B'ham 1920, no initial in the cartouche (get me!!) and weighed 46g. It was priced at £25 and I got it for £20. Result!! I also am watching ebay for a nice one for ddil but they seem very expensive and you do have to beware the flimsy thin ones. My dream would be to find a 1920's one with an R on it! I shall get them engraved - boys get their initials and girls get their names.I have also bought a nice set of BIG napkins to start them off (although dgs is too little as yet - still very much a bib wearer)
I love a beautifully set table and agree that its charming to have non-matching settings....Go for it with some silver candle sticks - you should manage to get some EPNS ones quite cheaply and they look so fab with the glasses (following my 120 glasses saga I now use the crystal on the grounds that you are a very long time dead...) and silver (do you have silver cutlery? Its a pain to clean but worth it)
We are having guests to supper tomz - refuse to call it a dinner party because its a casserole and all other yummy things but supper bacause its stress free - timings not important - and I will take great pleasure in setting the table during the afternoon and seeing it look lovely.
OS pleasure!Stay clutter-free

No, I don't have any silver cutlery but can you actually see through my computer screen? :rotfl:Guess what I've just been looking at?
I have also just bought myself another silver napkin ring (£9.28) but it is only a thin one. I'm very envious of your heavier ones for little money. I have figured that I only need another 3 napkin rings and then I'll have 10 which will be a setting for each place at the table.
I bid on a candlestick but didn't win the auction. I'm watching another two though which are very similar but not matching- I'm thinking it'll go with my eclectic theme.
Having the table set nicely sure beats the fruit bowl full of carp!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Oh yeah - and really when you think about it £10 for something that you will love for ages is excellent (and if you have to recycle through ebay you'll prob get your money back). You have inspired me to polish my silver now ....bit OTT for Friday night Fish n chips (HM of course) but one has to have standards darling...and dont you just love candles? When I decluttered the candles "area" ie space under the sideboard I discovered I had a bzillion candles and yet I was laothe to burn them because I didnt want to waste them!! Arghhh!! So now I just have fun and do you know what you can get candles in most shops and people love giving candles ...

Just thought I'd pop in because I've not posted all week & I miss you lot.
Was really busy at work on Monday & Tuesday then fell ill - so no real decluttering this week but neither has much come in. It feels a bit like I woke from a dream today only to find that someone had taken every item I own out of its normal place and scattered them randomly around the house. Don't feel I've got the energy to do much decluttering at the weekend so will make it my mission just to very gently return everything to its rightful place.
