The Great Declutter Part 2

  • Hi all, I'm so impressed with all your efforts! I have been working on the master bedroom and have so cleared 2 bin bags of old bed linen and clothes :) I have been able to fit all the clean washing AWAY in the drawers rather than stacking it on the side - and this has prompted me to clear off and clean up one of my chests of drawers which was thick with dust and quite disgusting really - also I have cleaned one of my very neglected windows (v embarrassing really!) So I am on my way to a much nicer, more pleasant and cleaner bedroom! Do you know what prompted this? In half term, I asked my dd (5) to clean and tidy her bedroom - it is a tip - and she said, "Why should I tidy my room when yours is so messy?" and I couldn't answer :O She's right isn't she?! I have to lead by example, which is what I'm trying to do now... Kids are so insightful sometimes aren't they?!
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

    Hi all,

Just found this thread and I must say I need some motivation to get my house decluttered. We moved in nearly two years ago and I still have loads of boxes in one of the outside barns which I have never unpacked! I also have a goal as I need to clear the spare room in time for the new baby's arrival in 2 1/2 months time! It is currently used as a spare room and a toy room for my other kids.

I am going to try the 100 items in 10 days but not sure how well I will get on. Any tips for getting and staying motivated!

    Thanks,
    Rachel

afternoon all everyone is doing so well. i need more hours in the day!

welcome rachel, all i can advise is little and often and try to make more leave the house each day than is allowed in. if you have blocks of time its really satisfying is set yourself an area to declutter whether its a drawer or shelf or if you have a whole day spare a cupboard or a room.
clutter can be devided into sellable (carboot local paper shop windows or ebay etc)
charity shop or charity bag (not worth selling but still someone might want it)
free cycle - if you cant be bothered to sell and just want it to find a new home
outright junk - tip or bin.
sometimes its not that we have to get rid of stuff it could just be that it needs a proper home to stop it being clutter - like the stuff that gets abandoned on the stairs or coffee table and doesnt get put back in its right place.
i hope you enjoy the challenge

1 bit of Dear occupier junk
    3 tickets to school play

I just missed the bin men but they saw me and took my rubbish off me and were very chipper and chirpy for a cold Tuesday morning. I love living in Hackney! :D

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Made a start with my 100 things yesterday:

    1. Trug full of tetra paks to recycling bank
    2. Extra paper that wouldn't fit in our box to recycling bank
    3. Lots of plastic bags (food ones etc not carriers) to Sainsburys bank

Our music stuff went back to the guy who normally looks after but won't count as an out as it'll probably come back at somepoint! Recycling was collected this morning too so that's good - 3 empty boxes to refill again!

In: 2 bits of post and 3 things from supermarket - trying to have a store cupboard challenge this week!

Hiya All - Here are my outs from the last 24hs (am trying for 100 in 10 days challenge!)

    12. Cribbage board to CS
    13. Candles that are now grotty (and have lots of nice ones to use up)
    14. Old iron (why have I kept it in the garage for 1 year?)
    15. Just found another book for CS bag.

Thats quite good for day 1 but I know its harder and harder as the obvious stuff is disposed of !

Have not bought anything except food in February.
Have only had 2 modest glasses of wine since 4th January!!

Hippygirl - so funny your dog stealing the pudding and breaking the plate! Bad dog!!!

  • Evening all...... its day 2 of the 100 items in 10 days challenge!

I have to agree with Megs mom that its going to be harder after the more obvious carp goes in these first few days.
