The Great Declutter Part 2

  • Haven't posted for a while, due to running out of steam during my Wave Bye Bye to 100 things in 10 days challenge. Still decluttering, only concentrating on the craft room at the moment, and it's a very slow job as I can't bear to part with anything 'just in case'. I'm trying to whittle it all down to a couple of cupboards and shelves, because we want to move in a couple of years' time and hubby has said that it has to look like a bedroom again, with a bed in it, for when we put it on the market!

The whole place is looking untidy and like a tip again, it's amazing how quickly it clutters up when you turn your back for a couple of days! Can't remember all of it but here goes:

    IN:
    Food
    Craft magazine
    3 reels sewing thread
    New jigsaw
    Pair of trousers
3 library books (from their sale)
    2 CDs (from library sale)
1 library book (not in sale)
    1 bank statement (currently lost)
New bird table made by dad (but that's in the garden so not decluttering)

    OUT:
Bag and box of craft stuff to my mum
    6 library books taken back
    2 books taken to daughter
1 pair of scales, 1 mixing bowl and 1 hand beater lent to daughter to make cakes
    Old bird table
    DVD sold on Ebay

    PENDING OUT:
7 black sacks of soft toys and 5 very large soft toys (for charity stall, just need someone to pick them up and store them somewhere other than my spare bedroom!)

I will get back to decluttering when I get some energy - it's surprising how clutter drags you down and oppresses you. Think I might start another 100 things in 10 days challenge in February...
Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Good Morning All, Loopychriss and many others - there seems to be a theme with the declutterers - many of us are cluttered with craft stuff and we cant bear to throw any "bits" away because you just know they will come in handy - sometime! I have stashes of patchwork fabric (4 big bags), wadding (2 huge bags), wool (2 bags and a"current projects" knitting bag) paper (2 specialist carrying bags and several boxes of A4), tools (all over my work tabletop, 2 drawers and several boxes) ribbons(huge box and 2 reel stands) and a plethora of brads, buttons, embellishments, embossing powders and who knows what... My point is that it is possible to have all this stuff (I think you would agree that it is essential) and not be cluttered IF YOU ARE STRONG. I bought a unit from Ikea with plastic drawers in it and spent a happy day sorting out and bagging up. It also means that I can find stuff without rummaging through countless boxes and being upset when something gets spoiled from being rummaged, or getting cross when I cant find that thing I know I had. I spent 2 hours bagging all my buttons in sets or singles in colour groups. I sorted all my threads out into colours and store them in a specialist box, with another for the bobbins. The trick is to build in 10 mins of proper tidying away time at the end of a crafting session and then its all lovely when you make your next card/dress/pressie. In fact when I have been really really good when I go into my spare bedroom (aka craft storage room) its almost like going to the shop ... but cheaper.
    Have a good day all!
Out: Sack of rubbish from garage
card I made for retiring friend
    6 eggs (sold)
    post

In: 4 leeks from garden (but out again as last nights soup!)
    post
    Stay clutter-free
No new stuff unless to replace broken items that are essential.
£2 savings pot (started Oct 09) £182 so far (£100 of which is banked)
Roadkill jar (found money) 87p and 20 eurocents

I need some motivation to get the house sorted today so I am giving myself half an hour at a time to get as much done as I can, then post back here with my achievements!

In my first half hour I
    Emptied DW
    Tidied half of kitchen
    Took ALL the rubbish out
    Cooked potatoes for later
Did one load of washing and one load TD'ing.

Next on the hit list is my bedroom for half an hour...

Anyone else need a kick to get going today?

    Love Frugal x

    IN: nothing so far

    OUT:
yesterday as part of the Santa challenge on the thrifty gifty forum, I decluttered my fridge freezer:
    - two bags of frozen homemade fishcakes which nobody would eat
    - 2 frozen ready made currys dated August 2007 and February 2008
    - frozen cheese and ham slices out of date
    - chocolate sauce past it's best
    - tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, carrots and potatoes - all turning into science projects
    - tinned tomatoes in plastic tub - also turned into science project

I'm slightly embarrassed that I've had to throw away so much food, but at least it is gone now.

Fridge freezer now clean and organised.

Also out, bin bag to dustbim.

DD1 is home sick today so probably won't get much done other than getting the washing sorted and dried from last nights adventures - she sleeps in a top bunk bed - enough said!:rotfl:

Happy clutter clearing to you all

put 2 more loads in the WM
found the camera cable so I can ebay the buggy
  • i wish you well frugal. looks like you will really see a difference at the end of the day

im decluttering at a slower pace using the other daily declutter thread as im in and out and spend too long on the puter to achieve much in 1/2 hour slots.
