  • Good morning everyone.

    Does anyone else find this empowering?
    I am definately finding that posting here is keeping me up to the mark.

    Brought down to work the bric a brac I had found yesterday and have already taken it to the charity shop opposite where I work.
    This was a box of 4 candle hurricane lamp thingies which I got out of the garage in the summer intending to put them in the conservatory. Never did & have spent last 6 or 7 months walking round the box they were in in the kitchen. Don't know why I did that but like lots of people find it hard to let things go 'just in case' I might need it.
    But now they are GONE, never to return:j
  • Hi everyone,

    Mavvysmum – I know how you feel as I too work full time so don’t have lots of time to declutter.
    Pigpen - I think you’re doing a great job, in fact we all are even if its just half an hour a day, its going towards our goal of a clutter free house!
    Megsmum – I did my tea towel draw too whilst cooking dinner but could only find 5 have no idea where they have all gone?!? Have they escaped to your house? :rotfl:
    TudorRose
    - yes I too find this all very empowering although i'm still on baby steps with this decluttering lark!

    In;
    Food bits
    Black and blue recycling bin now both empty
    Filing trays to help organise and tidy up post & paperwork in kitchen

    Out;
    Carp out of tea towel draw
    Mission accomplished – pile of clothes into charity bag outside to be collected :D

    Charity bag was only half full which isn’t as good as I’d planned but they only wanted clothes. However, another charity bag has since arrived so will put other bits and pieces into that one.

    Have a good weekend everyone and happy decluttering! :)

    A hint I was once given re getting rid of much loved but otherwise useless items:

    Before you bin it/them, take a digital photograph. You will then still have captured the memory of the item, seeing it will bring back the memories of whatever they remind you of; but they are no longer cluttering up your home.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Pigpen - try not to worry, I find that a little goes a long way - I try to not get overwhelmed by challenging myself for example, whilst the kids tea is in the oven for 20 mins, I have 20 mins to do something - last night I went through the craft cupboard in the kitchen and ditched a load of colouring books (not something that is necessarily seen, but it is still clutter - or perhaps try a really quick one, like whilst you are waiting for the kettle to boil grab a carrier bag and see how many thaings you can bin - it all mounts up.

    Remember, it took a long time for your clutter to build up, so it is not going to go away really quickly, you just need to keep chipping away at it - hth.

    IN:
    2 x birthday cards for DD1s friends birthday parties this week and next week.

    OUT:
    1 letter to new Car Insurance company with proof of no claims bonus
    3 x eggs - now all our chickens are laying we get 3 a day, but they are starting to mount up, so have made a cake to use some of them.

    Right, 30 mins 'til I pick up DD2 from playgroup - I'll go and see what I can get done ;)

    Sending everybody some motivation.....:D

    I do the dishwasher and washing machines while cookng dinner or I wouldn't keep on top of that lot either.

    I feel like I have been decluttering my entire life and am still living in squalor.. it is better.. for example I have less junk on the landing.. purely because I binned 2 cupboards and restacked some stuff in a wardrobe.. it is just better organised rather than gone.. Some days it is so overwhelming I could cry!

    i totally agree with you, i feel like i spend half my life moving things about and making one area look tidy by squeezing the stuff in somwhere else.

    i do think since joining this thread and checking what is coming in and out of the house at least i am aware of the situation and even if only one thing more a day leaves than enters it is one less thing cluttering up the house

    I'm not posting much but I am reading and getting support and inspiration from you all. Not much to report but there has been more out than in so I guess that’s still progress. I’ve cleared out the rest of the bathroom and started the paperwork. So far, two black bags of shreddings for the compost heap and another small pile yet to be shredded. I have been ruthless (I needed to be, I still had bank statements from 2001…:eek:)

    The most significant thing though was having a neighbour pop over yesterday and I felt able to open my front door wide and invite her in without feeling embarrassed or apologising for the mess :j My ambition now is, like a previous poster said, to feel that way about upstairs too and be able to leave the bedroom door open when people visit.
