Sorry no pics yet, will try as you all have been so kind with your good wishes. Some may know that there is a lot more going on in my life than a new dog. Though he of course takes precedence:D

I was told Paddy had severe separation anxiety, howling on leaving the room for instance.

Slept downstairs first two nights, then tried longer alone, only a couple of hours. By Thursday that week I thought I was becoming ill, feeling really dreadful. I slept all day on and off. No illness, just absolutely shattered.

He slept in his basket in my room on Sat night as a mad party was going on. The party didn't bother him, but I was worried someone would open front door and he would be off. We are back to normal now.

Monday night and last night, let him out. Knew by instinct on Mon something wasn't right.
Found him roaming the fields. Last night the same, I thought he was jumping the fence.
Found him in the Village on his way home. All well, except he could have been under a car or caused an accident, God forbid.

Took him on extender in garden today. Not jumping but a gap in stock wire. He lead me straight to it. Will sort tomorrow.

The weather is so against us. I want him to socialise with other dogs, he is wonderful and gentle with humans. Not sure he has met other dogs in a social situation.

Went to Park this morning. No one else there. Just a sheet of ice, gave up after 20 mins.

I feel so guilty dragging him back home when he wants to walk because I can't stand on the ice.

Best though, as if I were to break something, there would be no one to care for him.

Vet today. My Vet doesn't like castration but said he needs the undecended testicle removing for sure, and therefore neutering. Also needs two back teeth removing.

The rescue woman said no treatment needed for an "inverted testicle".

Not only had Vet not heard that term but said it vital it is done.
Three weeks away though for neutering and teeth to get him settled with me first.

Just to say he is the sweetest natured dog you could wish for at home with humans. Yet to see other dogs. Don't think he was ever socialised.

He is learning fast. Sit, stay and off. The down is defeating us as when the back goes down, the front springs up. Imagine a see-saw.

Now for insurance, bearing in mind he is Six. If anyone can point me in the right direction as I should be re-submitting my Divorce petition due to a technicallity, Nisi has been refused. Told you I should be doing other things!

Keep thinking of other things to tell you.

He has been eating tins of Hills Science left over from my boy Jaffa.
Eeugh the other end was like a Shetland Pony, gross.

Now on Orijen Regional Red or somesuch. I miss the feeding ritual, being the first time on dried food.
It used to be opening the can, forking it into bowl, mix with biscuits and serve. Now it's three handfuls and gone.

Oh sorry, more. Paddy was 12.1 Killo at PAH last Wed's. 12.9 today at Vet.

According to Vac Cert.13.8 K on 04/12/2009. Where did his weight go poor boy?

Last Wed, I released his collar by two holes, which shows how thin he was when he came home. He should be 14K.

My vet used to say if you are going to use wet food, use Chappie.
Mine used to too hethmar until he was seduced into the world of Royal Canin.
  • I would try NFU for insurance, have heard good things about them...

He sounds lovely - is the seperation anxiety improving any?

Sorry to hear about the divorce - hope all is well with you.

Oh I DO love a happy ending with a Rescue story. It is so lovely to hear of an animal being given a second chance in life...and falling on his feet with a really special home.
Just out of ignorance from a non dog owner....can you explain why a vet would not believe in castration for a dog? I am obviously aware that this is always recommended for a cat. Are there health risks apart from the ( anecdotal) problem of potential weight gain?

Yes thankyou, no real separation issues. Me from him maybe. I love dogs in bedrooms but it can cause probs in future as in ilness or old age, just when they need us most.

Worth thinking about for those who take their pets to bed.

Will look at NFU, only think of them as farm insurers. Due to his age, need a good deal for oldies.

Great to hear an update mutter!

There is a HUGE insurance thread on here....but when I was sorting mine out the overall consensus seems to be that the best genuine for life policies are AXA, NFU and Petplan but petplan are a lot dearer.

Most of the others are not worth bothering with because they seem to hike up prices and excesses when they feel like it and the supermarket ones for example can change underwriter so then your terms change etc.

If you have got lots on your mind - I would just try NFU and AXA you have to phone NFU but their customer service (I asked a million questions!!:o) was excellent and they were the cheapest for me so that's who I went with.

I'm sure I will be corrected if this is not the case!! ;)

Good luck with it all :D
