We're home!!!!
Hooray!
We have a rescue dog, who was about 6 months old when she arrived - we wouldn't be without her. :happyhear Started off in open crate in kitchen - now sleeps inbetween us in the bed - good job it's a super king!
I learnt lots about different rescues whilst we were searching. She was our first dog, and we've learnt loads about dogs, dog psychology, training and learning too (not just canine!) - Tilly is brill and does lots of tricks all taught with the clicker. She often gets complimented on her behaviour - she comes almost everywhere with us. I would always pick a rescue doglet.
Haven't read all the posts, but I hope you and Paddy have a fab time together.

Now where are the pics??!!!!Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -
Thanks billy, he looks more gorgeous now he's been stripped.
I left at 1.30 due to bad weather. We arrived back at 7.30, ( he was on seat next to me all way home).
By 8.15 he had explored garden on a lead. Had water and meal and asleep in bed. He raises his head every now and again to make sure I'm here. But I truly believe he knows he is home for good.
I hadn't realised how young and mad he would be. He's out of bed now on the floor and sleeping with his back legs stretched out behind him like a puppy.
I shall take him to my Vet on Monday for chipping worming etc. he has an inverted testicle which they said was not a problem, but I think he is underweight. there is nothing to him to lift. Maybe due to kennel stress.
Also when I walked him, a very runny bummy and "skated" on my floor after his dinner. Stinky little person.
They gave me a tin of Bakers Tripe for his meal tonight. I gave him a tin of Hills and biscuits. Have to sort food soon, I like the sound of Optigen or something I've seen here.
Well, after his whirling dervish display earlier, he is one chilled dog right now.
I forgot to ask for Vac cert's, should I have done?
I don't know whether he is pig ignorant or slightly deaf. When I call him he doesn't always heed but maybe too much for him to take in on his first day. He is very nosey, typical Cocker.
Out of habit because Jaffa ended up totally deaf, all speech is accompanied with hand signals. If he is, it's no problem.
Oh just to say, any fear of mine that he may be aggresive have gone. I forgot he was a new dog and picked his food up whilst eating and moved it. Thank goodness he could'nt have cared less.
A rescue dog with me eh! I can't believe it.
He can. He's already learnt that if he lies across the bottom of my footstool, I cannot possibly move without him knowing.
Tiger Lily. He is black and white though has some little spots of black so maybe roan.
JeannieB. What a narrow escape my Essex lad had. He could have been recruited into security by Jim and given a yellow jerkin!
Thanks everyone for your good wishes, I will press the thanks buttons tomorrow, at the moment I just want to count my blessings.
Lowis, I will PM you.0 -
Oh YIPPEEE! I am so pleased to read this update...and look forward to several more!
So...it just felt right then?
Bet Jaffa is looking down pleased.....0 -
I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat!!!!!!!
Jim's soundo on the rug in front of me.. I remember when I came home with him, it was as if he'd been here from the beginning of time.
You were probably not that far from me today - when I read the thread the other day and saw FCs link to Paddy I realised that it was only about 30 mins from me - if I'd had the time, I would've offered to check him out for you - I did give it some thought, I promise you. Knew deep down I didn't have the time and have been silently praying that you would still go for Paddy anyway! Phew, I can breathe at last................. shed the guilt...
Will you still call him Paddy?
I changed Jim's name. I like Paddy tho. Suits himGenie

Yay well done Mutter that's fantastic, the food might be Orijen? IMO it's the best dry you can get & as close to raw feeding as possible without raw feeding! Yes, do get them to send his vaccination card if they have it or else he'll probably have to begin again with the primary course two weeks apart. He might not be coming today for a few reasons, his name might be one the Rescue gave him & not his original name so he might not be used to it? Plus i'm sure he's overwhelmed with new sights/smells etc so sensory overload, he's maybe just too excited & exploring everything, his recall you can both work on when he's settled! What's an inverted testicle? I know if one hasn't dropped he'll need castrating but hopefully you'll get that done anyhow later on when he's settled. He sounds lovely & i'm so glad you're giving him a new start, happy 2010!0

Glad you went! Sounds very good so far!! Yes, I think you need his vac certs otherwise the vet may want to do his puppy innoculations again to be on the safe side - ring your vet and ask!
I bet he is relieved to be in a home again - do not be surprised if you get a bit of whining and crying tonight, Badger was quite unsettled at night at first, but she soon got over it.
We do need more piccies now though!0
