How do you make your icing so white?!

Using horrible Trex. Its not nice stuff to work with...! Just substitute the butter for trex.

I was going to ask the same thing, I too have made the centre piece(although the biscuit wasnt great-what recipe are you using?) and am wrapping them in cellophane. I thought about £8?? Ive got a crimbo market on sunday so was going to try and flog a few then! Also im going to try my hand and cake pops and wondered what cake you guys use? Ive looked in a few shops and cant seem to find a moist one and my cakes tend to go quite dry! Any help appreciated! x

    Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
I've been making cakes to order for friends and family for a couple of years, a few weeks ago i did my first school winter fayre selling cupcakes and made a fortune (well not quite!!) - i'd like to start doing the summer fayre/winter fayre's at schools next year but need advice on what to do from here.

I'm employed part time (office job) which i love and wouldn't want to give up but although the cake baking isn't a job as such i feel as though i should be more 'official' - i've yet to get my kitchen inspected as i'm due to move shortly and i'm going to arrange to get the new kitchen inspected and in turn hopefully issued with a hygiene cert (will be no problem i'm sure as i'm a cleanaholic).

Someone recently asked me to invoice them (duh?? - i'm not a business) and i'm kinda stuck between it being more than just occasional baking but no where close to making a living from it.

If i make it official then presumably it would entail 'creating' a business/tax/ public liability insurance etc - which scares the life out of me - plus it would all cost more than i would earn - should i take out public liability insurance just incase??? should i be declaring my earnings???, can i register my kitchen with the local authority without being a business??? - my head is spinning at the moment!!!!

    Thanku, xx //('_')\\ xx

Quick question... so I came up with this last night, which I'm going to package up in cellophane & display on my stall at the weekend taking orders for Christmas. It's about 15cm wide & 18cm high, just wondering how much you'd be willing to pay for one?

Blue Fox, I created a fan page on Facebook, got my friends to 'like' me, which in turn shows up in their threads & then hopefully their friends check out the page and 'like' as well. I also ran a competition to win a box of cupcakes, which to enter you had to suggest the page to your friends, and post a link on my local 'for sale, free, swap or wanted' board helped a lot as well.

I would not sell this for less than 10.00 showed some friends and I asked how much did they think it cost and most said 15.00!!

Oops, I've only been asking for £6 so far! Here's the finished product with all the packaging:

I just used the basic biscuit dough recipe from the 'biscuiteers book of iced biscuits' (http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&productId=202739) - lovely book with some great ideas!

For my cake pops I've always used a red velvet recipe in the past, it makes a gorgeous tasting cake that stays moist for days.

Im not sure i'd get £15 for it, people want something for nothing down my way! Think i'd just make £10...

I've been selling my christmas cupcakes that were nearly out of date for 50p(they really wouldnt of lasted the night!) and people were grumbling about that! That's why this could never be my full time employment and its a shame because I really enjoy it.

Have you worked out how much it costs to make Bluefire? Then you can add a bit on for your time and see what that works out at? It looks great though, really impressed :D
