That's amazing Stardrops.:T Must have taken ages to make. Did you get any feedback from the brother?0 -
hi everyone - i read this forum all the time for inspiration; the talent is amazing.
I'm hoping for some advice.
I'm making a giant cupcake, the order was originally chocolate with pink decoration. Was going to do a mixture of choc buttercream inside and around the join, choc fingers on the sides and pink vanilla swirl and pink sparkles etc.
Earlier the person ordering came back to me and said he wanted no vanilla flavour at all. So i suggested doing white choc buttercream tinted pink. He said he wasn't sure and his girlfriend - who the cake is for loves banoffee - and could i incorporate that!!
So i'm thinking choc cake and choc buttercream in layers and on join, choc fingers as before and a toffee buttercream. Do you think pink sparkle/ decorations would look good - it's all getting a bit messy for me but i'm not sure i should leave out putting a hint of pink somewhere on the cake.
Any thoughts/ideas would be welcome please.
thanks a lot x0 -

Thanks pennibWasn't too bad really I suppose. I covered the base and made all the little veg, chickens, pots etc in one evening and covered the cake and put it all together a few days later when everything was dry. Yes I did get feedback, he was over the moon! Said "it was greatly admired and photographed and tasted delicious!"

sorry ruby I can't help you there but didn't want to read and run.
Stardrops, have you ever watched that cake programme from US? The bloke looks like a biker but makes amazing cakes (tis on freeview) I think your's look even better:T
IMHO as they are soooo neat and tidy and no wonky lines (which I have seen on his) Next you'll be running batteries through them and making an all singing all dancing cake as he does :rotfl:
Along with your cupcakes I think that you would be a big hit if you ever branched out to the wider audience. :T0 -
Am in no way a relation or any affiliation to Stardrops by the way....just think her work is great!0

I am after some cake decorating advice please. I can do cupcakes no problem and I can bake a good cake (so people tell me) the problem I have is decorating them!! I can't seem to get the fondant to go on smoothly. I am not sure if I rolled it too thin, any advice please. SWould love to do a cake decorating class but can't find one local to me (Leeds, W Yorkshire)0

Hi Kirsty
Thats something I still find really difficult, getting the fondant to go on smooth . I got myself a few cake decorating books from the library and watched lots of videos on you tubeMake sure you are using good quality fondant, the supermarket stuff is rubbish! I use regal ice from my local sugarcraft shop rolled out about 1/4" thick. I also use cornflour to roll it out but you have to be quick or the fondant will dry out and crack. Make sure you only use a thin coat of buttercream under the fondant otherwise that can cause problems when trying to get it smooth. Are you using proper smoothers for your fondant? These are vital for a smooth finish. I find that even if a cake looks a bit bumpy when it's first covered if I just keep smoothing it as the fondant dries it usually looks fine when it's done. I'm self taught and no expert but I hope that helps;)

Hi Ruby
Not sure if I can help, I'm afraid I've only done vanilla, chocolate and chocolate fudge cake for my cakes;) I just wanted to say that the choc cake, choc buttercream, choc fingers and toffee buttercream sounds lovely! I'm all for pink and sparkly as well! I think she will love it, I mean what girl doesn't love a bit of pink;)Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)
