I have different ones of each of those that you mention. I did get the squires ones for 1.95. To be honest dont notice a difference in them. Hobbycraft is MORE expensive.................... THe Wilton box sounds good value. Just check the colours they are offering.

    Afternoon all!
Was wondering if any of you could help with with food colouring pastes...is there much of a difference between different brands (Wilton, Sugarflair, Squires Kitchen) or is there one that you've found is best? How much do you guys pay for them? Craft Company (hope I can mention names of places??) is the next town over to me, and they have the Wilton box of 8 for £14.99, and Sugarflair pots for £1.95 each, had a quick look on ebay and this seems ok?
    Thanks for any help! x

Squires Kitchen also do a range (QFC) for £1.55 each. I use both these and their professional range and haven't had any issues with the cheaper ones...

I always use the Sugarflair colouring pastes as that is what my local cake decorating shop sells. However i recently bought an Americolor one as they had a colour i wanted that Sugarflair don't do and it was just as good.

    Thank you!
Here's the waves from a different angle. I just cut them out of sugarpaste freehand and stuck them on. They aren't that neat close up! ;)

  • Esmer they look yummy!! :)

I have a question about freezing cakes. I have never frozen any of my cakes before but I have 2 cakes to make next week. One is for Monday night and one is for Friday morning. I don't work on Mondays so am planning to bake both of the cakes on Monday, decorate the one that is due that evening and freeze the 2nd one for Friday. I will decorate it on Thursday night, so when do i take it out of the freezer? Do i need to let it completely defrost before i start decorating it? And what do i wrap it in before putting in the freezer?

    Thanks in advance!

I know when you freeze it, you have to wrap in cling and in foil so it doesnt dry out..... or get freezer burn.

    Got this from cake baker

    Thawing
Thaw plain and small cakes in their packaging at room temperature; iced cakes need to be unwrapped before thawing to prevent the packaging sticking to the icing. Lightly cover a large iced cake before thawing, overnight, in the refrigerator.
