I figured now would be a good time to start my preparations!

Thanks for that tickseed link btw! they have some lovely little items which I think my nieces and nephews would adore!

A question for you all- i'm making hampers this year as money is really tight, I have a nice recipe for red onion chutney and i'll include some crackers, ASDA have 'Hartleys no bits jam' on offer at 2 for £1 at the minute, i'll either buy or make some cookies and probably throw in some chocolates but does anyone have any idea what else to put in? bearing in mind that i'm making around 10 hampers so it needs to be cheap and easily bought/made in larger batches!

Im really stuck for what to buy my sisters boyfriend :( hes 29 likes gardening and im not sure what else lol I was thinking maybe doing him a basket and putting in some chilli seeds? or some other unusual seeds (coz they love trying new and weird recipes too) but other than this and some chocolate im stuck...any ideas from you clever people? xxx

I am busy making a gardening hamper for a friend and I managed to get a pack with seed labels a pencil and a roll of garden wire for 10p also big clips to put on compost bags to reseal them for 10p all in B&Q. they also had garden gloves and lots of other smaller things to fill up your hamper along with seeds etc. garden kneelers are always useful and a spare pair of secateurs

Christmas 2010 is sorted for DH and me.

Immediately after coming back from our holiday in Ireland a month ago, we decided on a 5-night getaway to the Belgian Ardennes. Here's where we'll be staying: http://www.travbuddy.com/Hotel-Relais-Godefroy-Bouillon-v380622

It had to be a smaller hotel than the one where we went for last Christmas - that was in the Britannia group and it turned out to be something of a disaster. The only mitigating factor was the fact that we were travelling independently (i.e. not in the coach parties that were there at the same time) and so we could get out on our own. The annual Carol Service in Coventry Cathedral was absolutely magic. It was one of the reasons why we went to Coventry and was wonderful. Also the local parish church Christmas morning, a few nice meals out, and dinner in a local pub with DH's daughter and her husband.

The reason for crossing the Channel for this Christmas is - mainly - that DH still has approx 600 euros left from our holiday in Ireland and, rather than change them back again, we'll use them up that way. Also we've never been to the Ardennes and we know there's lovely scenery and good food. So, Christmas - sorted! We don't have to buy anything for anybody, send anything to anybody, just look forward to going. And find a little local church for a Christmas service. Bouillon is just close to the Belgian part of the Ardennes so French will be spoken.

Before I found wisdom, I became old.
  • Had a productive few days for Christmas organising. I've written reply letters from Santa using this website http://www.dltk-cards.com/writingpaper/letter-intro.htm printed personalised Christmas stories from here http://www.northpole.com/Den/PersonalizedStories/
designed the labels for my reindeer noses (and bought loads of m&ms to pick out red and brown ones) bought a jar for my brothers pot of Gold, toiletries for mums pamper hamper from the Avon clearance sale and dvds to go in from matalan, £2.99 each, started flannel reindeers, made 2/3s of DHs nannas jewellery set (which will have cost me under £5 to make for necklace, bracelet and earrings), also bought a cheap silicone loaf tin for chocolate slabs and, using money made from surveys, magnetic sheets, for my peg fridge memo clip thingys (which I also started making on Saturday - 15 down!), and cellophane bags for my HM truffles.

Phew! not a bad few days at all!
Think I'm toooooo excited this year! :santa2:

I've decided to wait until the new Big Tesco opens up the road before buying flannels and towels for Reindeer and Towel Cakes. It's hard sneaking things into my house since my mum is curious if I bring home shopping bags. So I'll walk up when it's opened and buy bits when parents are at work.

Get paid on Friday so will buy some presents then, get that ball rolling.

Today I started on my first Sock Monkey present. It'll probably go to Dad. And I've worked out what I'm doing with the napkins for Christmas dinner so I don't need to think about that. (Each year I origami fold the napkins into something. A different design each year. I bought an origami book the other day with a book voucher and found some napkin folds in there.)
