    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi Poppy thanks for that it was a great help! Gonna try my hand hopefully over the weekend! Just wondered if im any good id like to sell some of the jewellery but the only thing im not too sure about is the tax implications.

Has anyone done this who can let me know how difficult the tax side of things is and is it worth it with the amount of tax that needs to be paid?

    Thanks :) x
    :p
  • Hi Suze, if you don`t currently work your tax allowance is just over £6k for the year this means you don`t pay tax on any of the first £6k you earn in the tax year.
If you are employed and earn say £15k you would pay basic tax rate so this would apply to what you sell also.
If you are employed and just within the basic tax rate and selling jewellery would take you over this, then you would be moved into the higher rate tax payer band.
You would need to keep strict records either way for submitting for self assesment each year. This means copies of invoices, reciepts, sales etc.
You may also be able to claim a % of heating, electricity, broadband etc if you are working from home.
You will also need to register as self employed and if you do fairs/parties/demos you will also need public liability insurance.

I am really resisting the urge to go on a bead shopping spree. I have seen some lovely bits that I want to create some pieces but am soooo poor at the mo, I really shouldn't.

right guys, still not managed to order anything to make...but now Im thinking of trying to make tiaras for my wedding...just a simple design. Where is the cheapest place for stuff and where do I get the main headband bit from? Do I just need hairpins (is that the wrong word?!) ...the little pins that you thread beads onto....beads and pliers? I want sparkles and pearls on the tiara...

I am going to have a go at making my tiara for my wedding. You can get the bands on ebay, and I am going to attempt to wire wrap some swrazoski crystals and wrap around the band. There are loads of youtube tutorials for it if you google them.

Post a pic when you've done yours and I'll do the same.
