  • Great makes there!

I`m sure there are a mix of people on here who make for gifts and/or sell to raise a little extra cash.

I started off making a few bits for gifts and people told me they loved my things and I should start a little business. Well its a slow process.... but I`m sure I`ll get there in the end.

Its my best friends birthday in March so I plan to make her a bracelet, ring and earrings set in red and black swarovski pearls and bicones as these are her favourite colours. I have an idea for some packaging but all will be revealed later on. I must order some more head pins too as my last bracelet used almost 120:eek:

I really must get on with my Easter gifts - which are non jewellery but I have to keep checking this site - its an obsession lol!

Sorry my internet connection dropped after I edited it :)

I put space in between your pictures as they were all side by side and basically made the whole page 3 times as wide meaning it was impossible to read - the blog comment was for those who HAVE been putting in links - I don't remove text and usually I don't edit posts either - I just didn't want to yank all your pictures off just because of a minor configuration issue and my options were to delete your post or insert 5 spaces...
For those who have links to their blogs in their posts - unless they are removed by the time I finish dinner the posts will be removed. I think I've explained the rules often enough on the special occasions forum - you can NOT post links to your own sites - insert them in your user profile instead as that is perfectly allowed :)

phew, thought I'd broken the rules there for a minute.

The photos were fine on my MacBook, I need to pay more attention in the future though, thanks for fixing them, there's nothing worse than having to scroll sideways.

Suze, it all depends what you want to make, if you want to make earrings, then head/eye pins and earwires, with bracelets, are you wanting to do charm bracelets on a chain? woven bracelets, or the spiral memory ones?

Are you wanting to do simple stringing, wirework, bead weaving?

Without knowing what you want to do, we won't know what to tell you, best bet is to have a look at beading/jewellery making books in the library and see what kind of jewellery takes your fancy.

Hi Jo, I want to make most things, but its the pliers/cutters im not too sure about :) I can figure out the wires and beads etc x
    :p
  • Hi Suze,

Your basic kit should include some round nosed and flat pliers and some wire cutters - you can get these fairly cheaply in Hobbycraft.
http://direct.hobbycraft.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productcatalogue=255958 or they do a large pack of different tools for £19.99 their own brand.

    For Earrings you will need...

    Ear Wires
    Head Pins
    Selection of beads.

    For Memory Wire Bracelets....

Memory Wire - try PJ Beads or Jilly beads - around 15p for a 4/5 coil for one bracelet.
    Beads

    For Charm Bracelets

Length of chain ( cut to correct wrist size)
    Split rings
    Toggle and clasp
    Beads
    Head Pins

    For Simple Necklace 1

    Eye Pins
    Beads
    Split rings
    Lobster Clasp Fastener
    Extension Chain

    For Simple Necklace 2

    Beading Wire
    Crimp beads
    crimp pliers
    beads
    lobster clasp
    extension chain

    Hope this helps
