  • Hi peeps,

Can I join in too!!!! I have started making my own jewellery, well I have ordered the bits ha ha, and am waiting on my crystals to turn up :)

All your bracelets look amazing! I am in awe of those memory wire ones and need to make some me thinks!!!!

One thing where I have gone wrong is ordering rubbish beady bits (sizes were wrong and not enough). So with Jilly beads mixes for example, how far will 25g get me?

Also, are the seed bead wheels a must have accessory?

Is it worthwhile selling online? I have looked on Ebay and as someone has said it isnt exactly bustling :D

Am looking forward to sharing ideas!!!!

I don't have a seed bead wheel, but they can be useful for certain proects, it just depends on you really. 25g again will depend on the size of the beads so the bigger they are the less you'll get for the weight.

Sorry if that's not much help. Some sites give you an approximate number for weight.

Im new to this too so I have found the memory wire easier to try 1st but now know you can add more pretty beads to it.

My daughter has made a few memory wire bracelets as gift for friends but after helping her and seeing all the pretty ones on here I have now got the bug :).

I am very lucky to have found a bead shop in my town (they also have a great ebay shop, just in case I can't get there lol) that is reasonable so Im going to try and do a bit more than seed bead bracelets :D

  • If you buy something like the Jilly Beads faraway fushion mix you get 33g which is around 250 beads - enough to fill a 4 coil memory wire bracelet although lots of the beads are quite small.
The czech bead mix on JB is 100g and around 150 beads.

PJ beads do a 100g bag of mixed glass beads for £2 and you get 40/50 in each bag as the beads are larger.

I would buy a mix of large and then some smaller fire polish rounds and bicones and then add some seed beads and miyuki cubes. Then you have a good base set of beads for earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

More to the point poppy - could you do matching sets of bracelet, necklace and earrings? :)

  • ohhh yes MrsTine, they'd be lovely :)

I would really love to get into jewellery making, but I'm not quite sure how my other half will react.....no I DO know lol

I have so many other craft projects on the go and cluttering up the house...but surely I could fit in a box of beads/wires etc??? ;)

Ahhh but it's never just a box of beads and wires, they seem to multiply and before you know it, they have taken over.

I have a 3 shelf bookcase, full of take away tubs of beads, one of those 3 drawer cabinets on wheels full of seed beads, two B&Q storage things (each has 4 sectional trays) full of findings and a huge Stanley tool box with wire in, along with assorted biscuit tins etc :)

I was working on a Crystal Ice set last night and have made the earrings and half way throught the braclet. Just waiting for some new bits I have ordered and I can complete the set with a necklace!:D
