Unless it was described as coming with a UK keyboard layout it's not a 'not as described issue' but purely a setup issue and it's not all that confusing for a 10 year old - mac keyboards are generally laid out in that way I believe.
How can it be a setup issue when it PHYSICALLY has a US keyboard layout?

    It hasn't!!!

Where is the @ symbol printed on your keyboard?
'on the 2 key with shift key'

ok I really really really must be missing something here (and am starting to feel embarrassingly thick :o:o:o)

the op said that the @ was printed on the 2 key and to get it you press 2 and the shift key....right?

Well doesn't that make it an US layout keyboard?

my on my 2 key I have " printed and the @ is on the , key.

I agree with the second part. But the OP didn't say it was on the 2 key. She said that she got the @ 'using the 2 key with shift key' Which to me means that she presses on the 2 and shift key to get @.No time has she said it is on the 2 key.

It is highly unlikely that a US keyboard would get past quality control at Argos. I have never seen or heard of that before!!

ah right I see what you mean, I took her post to be that the @ symbol was printed on the 2 key and to get it you pressed 2 and shift.

I suppose we will just have to wait until she comes back for her to clarify :)

She's probably on her way to Argos getting it replaced as we speak;):rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: she's going to be totally bemused when she gets back to this thread I think.

Yes you're right, all mac keyboards are laid out with the @ sign by the numbers.

To be honest with you I don't really see the problem. Keyboard layouts vary significantly between different laptops/netbooks. e.g where the enter key sits, the +/- etc etc and a 10 year old is unlikely to be touch typing yet so will just adapt to the keyboard that they are using. Also, just because it's for a 10 year old, doesn't mean that it's beyond their comprehension. If the symbol is printed on the keys then they should be able to cope.

If this is an american keyboard then surely they have sold me a product not fit for its purpose in the uk.

I am going to seek their technical help but if not resolved may have to fight this out with them.
Generally computers work anywhere, the keyboard layout is generally market specific

Because you can change the SETUP to print whatever you want when you press any given key. The product in question (I'm guessing) connects to the internet, lets you type stuff in, lets you check emails etc etc etc - it does everything it says on the tin.
