I bought my daughter an MSI Wind U100 last year. It does have a UK Keyboard on it so I think there is some value in complaining. Not convinced it would be successful but Argos seem to have acquired a batch destined not for our shores.

If this is an american keyboard then surely they have sold me a product not fit for its purpose in the uk.

I am going to seek their technical help but if not resolved may have to fight this out with them.

I am sorry but unless you meet some total burk at CS they will laugh you out of the shop. I've been working in IT for 15 years and this is the clearest case of US settings yet. Just change to UK. go to Regional Languages and then Keyboard and remove anything to do with US and it will work I promise you - and it saves the embarassment.

This is one of the reasons I left a helpdesk on a Blue Chip companies technical helpline. No offence OP. but I couldn't really hack explaining Coffee Cup Holders (CD drive), No Connection (Lead not plugged in), The Internet Never Works (Modem not switched on), Slow Speeds in Gaming (PC in Garden on wireless network about 100 feet away from router).

Fortunately these days I work in IT for myself. Not on a helpline. I'm not saying you are to blame. I mean we all have different levels of IT ability but there is only so much you can cope with on one of those helplines - and the abuse thrown in too. Average burn out rate 21 months employment.

  • Stebiz, if you read the full thread you will see that the op has changed the settings but judging by where the characters are actually printed on the keyboard it would appear to be an american keyboard and as its for a 10 year old they are well justified in wanting their money back or a replacement.

    Merry Christmas all :)

No she hasn't. And that is exactly were the characters are on US settings. And no they aren't - if it is set up incorrectly. Although knowing Argos and some of their staff - refund here we come!! And the stock will be sold as seconds and appearing on ebay very shortly (with nothing wrong with it).

    Happy Christmas.

on the 2 key with shift key

I know it is only something simple but its just getting there

is this not where the @ would be on a US Keyboard and therefore mean its a US keyboard rather than a UK one with US settings?
