I also use the loop method to start, and run the end under some stitch backs to finish. It took me a few years of stitching to discover the loop method for starting, though now I know it I wouldn't go back.

It would be really interesting to see some pics of the back of some peoples work. I haven't got time to take one now but I'll try and upload a front and back picture of mine next time I do an update (soon, I promise)

My backs are very messy so not for the fainthearted.:rotfl:
I am really jealous of those that can make the backs look nearly as good as the front.

I still use both starting methods. I think because I was so used to the one where you secure the thread by stitching over the end that I often forget about the loop method. I heard about it a couple of years ago, I think. Stitching 'in the well' is new to me too, but my mum stitches this way now.
I should take a photo of the back of my Crisp Afternoon-it's the messiest work I've ever done!!!! Normally I'm quite neat on the back, but there's so much confetti stitching that it can't stay neat. Once I've woken up a bit more & I'm functioning normally, I'll find it and take a pic. It's taken ages to type this-I keep having to go back and correct my spelling!

  • It's pretty easy to keep the back of work clean when it's got blocks of colour. I took a picture of the reverse of this one (Click the images to make them bigger):

    Here's the back:

I tend to use the stitches to hold the thread in place to start off with. An alternative to use the loop, is to loop the thread to the needle, then it doesn't wander off if you are being portable with your work.

Not going to be taking a pic of the back of my work - it's not neat at all. I sort of go with the 'well, no-one's going to see it' way of thinking :rotfl:

I have almost finished another section, could have been done last night but I got caught up in msn lol. Might get it done tonight after work.

And...I have been browsing again :o Got another HAED to add to my list:

    http://www.sewalong.co.uk/ProductFull.asp?sel1=(HAE)RA25S

That makes 4 more big projects for me now.

At this rate I should just cancel my magazine subscriptions, cos I'll never have time to do anything from them again!!

  • Thanks Ruth_honey, I try my best. :)

I should take a picture of my first major cross-stitch and see how the back of that one compares. :o It's a country companion, so no doubt that hedgehog looks a right mess with his (or is it a she? :rotfl:) blended threads...

Ohh, about £16 a quarter (2 mags), I haven't started any charts from them in aaages...but there's something nice about them dropping through the letterbox and giving me an excuse for a cuppa and a browse :o

And knowing me, I would see them when I was shopping and end up buying them at full price!!:rotfl:

That's exactly why I subscribe! :D But I've cut mine down to just Cross Stitcher (through the Tesco clubcard deal), unless any good trial offers come through. I had some before christmas-3 issues for £1, but they've ended now.
