I was having a wee browse and spotted this blog:
    http://rebeccaneedleniche.blogspot.com/2008/01/starting-new-rotation.html
I thought it was a really unusual way of dealing with 'confetti stitching'.
I don't think I could work that way, all those threads would annoy me...not to mention getting tangled etc.
Does anyone else stitch that way?
Sorry, didn't look at the site until now...what a mess these threads would get into!!! I have ended up using two needles, but only when I find I have made a mistake with one colour and so have to unpick and then redo it :o

I tend to work on the bigger blocks of colour near/next to each other and then have "fun" doing the confetti (I like that description) stitches that are scattered around/within them.

Still not done any stitching today :( as I took the dog for a walk and then helped DH tidy up the mess after cutting down most of the lilacs. Oh well, maybe get some done tonight.

    Deffo stitiching tomorrow though!! :D:D:D

There is no way that I could work with that many threads!! I work with one thread until I've used it up, or run out of reachable stitches in that colour then I start the next thread in whatever colour seems appropriate.

I do sometimes have 2 threads out as if I have stitched all I can reach in one colour but I have a decent length of thread left and I can see there is a bit more to do not too far away, but far enough that I don't want to risk counting and stitching because I work on evenweve and couldn't bear getting it wrong. In that scenario I running stitch the thread away from the active working area and work a little motif similar to the chart symbol to remind me what that thread is. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time I do it to show what I mean.

Absolutely no way! :D One thread is enough for me. I'm like the rest of you. Use one colour to do all I can then change colours.

I have popped on to announce that hubby has finished his owl :T. He sat this morning and finished it off... about 60 french knots :rotfl:-all those seed heads are knots

So here is the one that he is now sat working on ;)
    owlpolly.th.jpg

That's really nice! I wish my hubby would get into cross stitching but there's no way in the world he's interested. When I talk about it it's in one ear and out the other :D

I also want to sing the praises of acrosstownstitching :T
As you know I had trouble getting both threads and a kit to go in the same basket on thursday night. I sent a contact email late thurs night and got a reply within 10 minutes. The lady was very helpful and said to place 2 seperate oders and she would refund me one of the postal charges. I placed 2 orders on fri morning and pretty much immediately got the promised refund.
    My orders arrived today!
I am very impressed at both speed of delivery and the excellent customer service I received. These days customer service like I have had is hard to find.

I got the aida in town on friday so am all ready to get started!
I have been looking over both of the charts and have modified them already :o
To be honest though I think one of the charts is slightly wrong. The hair on one of the fairies is meant to be pale brown with darker brown highlights. The symbols for the hair though relate to a mucky green colour! I have noted on the symbol guide to use just the darker brown for the hair and forget the mucky green :rotfl:

Can't wait for my birthday now so I can order a symphony frame!

    Good times! :rotfl::rotfl:

tis funny u should say that. one of my kittens is brown but when i started it looked a horribly mucky green. strangely once the other shades had been sown around it it blended in perfectly and didn't look green at all.

    Morning all

Well -we had all sorts of fun n games here yesterday :rotfl:-I got hubby settled with his new owl...he did a couple of dozen stitches *amidst lots of grumbling* -unpicked them as "they don't look even...put them in again -took them out again...:p
Bless his socks that kit it 32ct dark blue linen -so I tried to explain that the weave isn't always even.....
So then I got him th 28ct dark blue out (which I got him for that kit anyway as I thought 32 might cause trouble -plus I like more fabric leftover for framing them ;))
So -down he sat, and off he set -put the stitches in -took the stitches out.... *did I mention he is a perfectionist when x-stitching:rotfl:* -
So I told him it was silly starting one if he wasn't going to enjoy it as he would never touch it... so we put everything back in the packet, got the other kits out he had picked....
a tiger on a rock, a tigers head -oh and a leopard -ALL ON BLACK -and finally I remembered he had a chart of Carl fogarty on his motorbike (one of hubbies heros) -cue -yours truely going through all my threads and amazingly find all the colours he needed -and we had the fabric -cream 28ct evenweave :T -oh and to top it all he now has one of the new frames to work on too :rotfl:..
So as you can imagine I didn't get as much sewing done as I would have liked:p....so I have got up this morning the chicken is on, the rest of the dinner is prepared , the bread is proving, we have vaccumed and polished, I have cleaned the cooker and Im now gonna park my bum on the sofa for as long as possible :D

Shelly -I was amazed when hubby decided to give it a go... he has done a nuthatch -then 2 robbins (his first bash on evenweave), then his swan (the 1st biggy) and then that owl -(his first biggy on linen) ... he has fits and starts with doing them, but finds it really helps him unwind -we know several squaddies who do it ;)

Right -enough waffle -Im eating into valuble sewing time :p-have a great day everyone :T

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. I'll do the hair last and do a few green stitches and see if it looks ok (have written another note on the chart :D)

  • Hello everyone

I am currently stitching quite a large design as a wedding gift for my sister in law and best friend :o The wedding is in July but I want to have it finished by April as I want to leave plenty of time to find a nice frame and I also need to make one for my parents 25th wedding anniversary which is the day before the wedding lol.

I havent bee nable to do any yet because the bride to be has been staying at my house all weekend, so had to hide it...can't wait to get into it later, but must do uni work first:(
