Hi everyone - hope you all had a great Christmas.
I'm back again this year and as a start would like to ask your opinion. My son (almost 6) will be invited to around 20 parties in the next 3 months as at their school the classes are arranged in age order (Oldest 30, next oldest 30 etc.). This means all the weekends until March will be very busy!
Anyway, I digress....I was thinking of stitching initials for the girls from the Edwardian Country Diary alphabet book I have. Most are only 55 stiches square, and I was thinking of framing them myself, as they are only small, with a basic frame from Wilkos etc. Do you think this is naff/boring? Just thought it would make a difference from the 30 or so games/books that are normally given, plus they've all just had Christmas gifts. Just need to think about what to get the boys in the class.
Your views please .....

What a lovely idea Coxy, very original.
What about a car design for the boys?0 -

That's a great idea chickywiggle! So I have until Dec 2010 to get the first sampler done! Not that my DS1 will be that desperate to have it in the first place!
I have decided to order the H&E Astronomer..once it arrives I will then have to source the threads...what's the best (and cheapest) place to get them?
I had bookmarked a site mentioned somwhere...but as we got a new computer earlier this year, I have lost all my bookmarks,..I did back them up, but something went wrong with the re-installation...
I will search this thread ..I'm sure Mrs M said something about a site with street in the web address...must have a look.
Found it: Across town stitching in the 2009 UFO thead.
Right, not going to spend much time here today...overdosed yesterday. and got little else done!
Listening to the cricket atm...England are doing remarkably well...amazing! A victory is possibly in the offing, though still a day to go, so it is not over quite yet!
Off to hunt for a source of theads for a bit. Should I choose DMC or Anchor? I should wait until I get the chart I suppose.

If you e-bay you can normally get some good deals - I think i got my last lot for 25p each or something. Tho how this compares to other sites I'm not sure.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Morning all
Keiss -across town have been great so far... if you can get the threads ordered before the 1st Jan you will save more as the threads are going up then -but they are still much cheaper than usual :T(I ordered all the threads for my next 3 projects before xmas -about 300 threads),, ooh and Im a DMC girl... I find them much softer and less tangly than anchor.... and if you see the same design done in both -DMC seem slightly more muted and natural looking (well I think so anyway)
is your "astronomer" a chart that is supposed to be done on 25ct -over 1 thread? My H&E charts are but I am transfering them to 28ct and over 2 threads-I would go boggle eyed doing on 25ct

Thanks for the advice Mrs M - I can't order the threads until I get the chart, so no ordering until that arrives!
As to the material to use, I have used 28 count before, but not 25 - you could be right about doing it over two threads rather than one. I already have reading glasses, but suspect I will need a strong magnifying glass too!
I have just done the maths...that will make the finished work 37.5" x 25" - rather large, so a Christmas pressie methinks!! I can see me having to get a frame for that, rather than a hoop (of which I have many!).
What have I let myself in for?!!!

Hi all :hello: have just migrated over from the cardmaking thread, hope you don't mind if I join you!
Been having a bit of a break from cross stitch after finishing a rather headachey project in the summer but I've ben doing a small kit over xmas and am now ready to unpack my ufo's! I think the first one will be a Charles Rennie Mackintosh style kit I started in 2007 and have barely touched since!
some of the projects you are all working on look amazing and I am looking forward to seeing lots of photo's coming up!

Hi Keiss....
Derrrr -never thought about you needing the chart so you can order the threads :rotfl:
It will be an impressive size when done..but just think you will still only be doing the same number of crosses when working on 28ct as you would if working on 25ct
This is another one I have everything ready for and it will be 28" X 43" when done

I just need to get the forest light done -oh and I was also planning on x-stitching xmas decs for the tree this year-I can see me having to weld myself to the sofa -oh what a shame
...cor -only another 5 days before I get to go back to Germany and get on with it :j

Am planning on getting two large projects finished this year. One is a group of 3 alsations, but I don't like the lack of detail now I'm halfway through (anybody got a link to a nice single detailed alsation?) and a dragon that my husband has been nagging me for for the past 5 years :rotfl:. Suppose I'd better get that done. Hoping to break it up with having another one on the go so it doesn't drag too much. Will post pics when I start."Failure is always an option"
