Hi
I've just spent an hour reading dozens of pages on this thread, I've worked backwards to page 263 and must stop now. Can I ask a couple of (probably daft) questions please?
What is a UFO, I keep seeing this mentioned
Secondly, I'm not in the UK just now, I'm away volunteering. I brought my stitching with me but I've not done much yet, no time. I have used many of my threads for other things - their need is greater than mine.
Now I want to replace and stock up. I'm not that experienced. Is it really worth paying extra to buy e.g. Anchor or are they all about the same? Are there any makes which are best avoided? I can have them posted to UK or here.
Many thanks
UFO is Un Finished Object
Can't really answer the question about whether it's worth paying more for brands because I usually buy kits and so use the thread that comes with them, though I have a stash of thread from the pound shop and it's fine to stitch with.
I do have a few charts and they mostly list the threads in both DMC and Anchor. Given the choice I will buy DMC from here http://www.across-town-stitching.talktalk.net/index.html they are cheap, deliver quickly and have excellent customer service.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I echo what Shelly said, I use that site as well and find them very reasonable
I always use DMC threads as opposed to cheap ones. Main reason is that I know that the dye won't run when I was my finished piece and the second reason is that they feels softer and less harsh than chaper threads do.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Got my pieces back from the framers today - first two I am very happy with but the third I am disappointed and will have to take it back
(Hubby collected them or I would have asked for it to be sorted already)
This is the biggest one (£21) and is for my mums christmas:
This one (£17) is for my MIL's christmas, her fave animal:
And this is the one I'm not happy with. I chose a lilac mount and he has obviously forgotten/not checked his order book. I really don't like the cream mount against the sparkly white aida. Also there is some brown fluff trapped under the glass next to the wing on the left. I could open it and take it out, but then the back wouldn't be all taped up and professional looking.
Typical it would be the one I need to get posted during the week as well!! It's for a friend in Devon.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I'm sure I have that magazine. PM me your email address and if I find it tomorrow I'll scan in the chart & email it to you. It's a lovely pic-I remember thinking that at the time.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

I am up early thanks to my furry alarm clock being very persistent!
I didn't manage any cross stitch yesterday as we spent most of the day in town. This morning its tidy up and housework and this afternoon, its make banana cake (I have 18 banana to use up) :eek:and stitch time ! not sure what I want to stitch yet ? With my xmas leave just around the corner, I fancy doing something that I can really get my teeth into especially as I will have lots of stitch time available
What projects does everyone else have planned for xmas ??0 -
Hi everyone. I've been stitching like crazy yesterday and I've almost finished the Rose. Ive just ordered the threads for my next 'small' project which is the Tatty Teddy's from last months WOXS. I've read a lot of the previous posts so I know that Tatty Teddy pieces have loads of back stitch but I honestly don't mind back stitch and it's small enough so I can do it at work. Oh speaking of work I have got a new job that starts in January. No more wearing a uniform for me
Although it means I'll have to go out and buy some office type clothes as I don't have much in my wardrobe that I can wear. Oh well. Maybe in the Jan sales.
Happy stitching everyone!#19 Save £12K in 2019 challenge. Target = £10,000. Progress = £1136.09/10,000 (11.36%)

I'm not sure about my Christmas projects yet, I think I'll leave the Piglet cushion here and take my little snowflakes that I am doing for cards with me to my mums and subsequently my aunts. Wouldn't be polite to take a whole stand with me...0
